I'm bringing a group of media students over in the second week of November to check out universities and visit museums/galleries/VFX houses etc so I could meet up for a beer or two one evening?
London is boring! Come to Dublin, we got... we got....umm... We got Guinness, straight from the brewery! Ah well. I guess it is easier to arrange in London.
Sounds like a plan, how about Friday 13th or 20th November, Crown and Two chairmen in Soho, Dean Street as you can drink outside on the street and have a cheeky smoke.
I could poke my Alumni who work in the area and we could all occupy upstairs and outside, there's a handy bar upstairs as well
My vote is for the Friday, on account of needing to be in Preston by about 8am on the Sunday xD
Edit: Given how many of us there tend to be, it is well worth finding somewhere we can book a space in advance. I still recall the 'Great Polycount Goose Chase' one time when this didn't happen...
....we've never booked anywhere in advance for the London meets afaik..? lol
Yeah, and the aforementioned time resulted in quite a lot of people turning up to a pub with no Polycounters in it. Would be nice to avoid a repeat scenario. IIRC, someone organised the last one and sorted out space in the pub at KGX?
Friday afternoon into nights are good for me, 13th, 20th, 27th Nov? Soho is also largely open 24-7 so could drink all night into Saturday morning ha-ha!
Could always start at the Crown and Two Chairmen and then move onto to the hundreds of pubs around the area. The Spice of life is cool as they close off the road and you can drink outside.
I've been to meltdown. It's pretty cool, a bit awkward and not huge. But it does have video games you can play, so it's appropriate for video game artists I guess!
haha! well iam totally for wherever you guys want to go first
Iam free Friday 20th of nov from 4:30 onwards 'as thats when I finish work'
or any-time the Saturday too! soo any of those days suit me!
Il watch this space for updates! , shame we arent all friends on FB would be soo much easier arranging time/location etc haha!... Feel free to add me if you guyz/girlz want!. Username is a clue
i still think the best place for big meetups is the pub upstairs at kings cross. nice central location at a station so nobody has to go too far to try and get home, and the upstairs part of the pub is big and roomy with huge tables.
I'm in, the previous one was really fun. Parcel yard was great, but the idea of starting at Crown and Two Chairmen then
moving on to the Spice of life sounds even better.
To clarify, we've never actually booked a space at the parcel yard, we've just turned up and uh... taken over the upstairs area which they've always been happy with because we tend to spend a lot there on food/drinks.
I'm not opposed to booking the space, but that would mean taking deposits from polycounters.
During our visit to the city with my students this week I got to the Crown and Two Chairmen (scuse the crappy phone pic). Sorry I won't be there to meet you guys but I did get to have a pint with an animation director from ILM after a visit to their London facility, MPC and Framestore - so it's all good. I even wore my PC shirt.

Our london meetups have gotten pretty big (30-ish), so it should be a fun time. what dates?
I can totally hang out that Friday/Saturday if you guys are about! Perhaps we can get more peeps included!
Il ask in work to see if anybody wants to come along!

Disclaimer: I may be Irish but guaranteed, you all could drink me under the table 'As if there is Tea id most likely end up drinking it haha'
Just a warning, we will probably have to book their function room or upstairs or something. PC meets get pretty big...
If people are travelling would it be better to meet on Saturday day time for all you full time working guys and go into the night?
Also what about the Meltdown Bar or is that just going into over geek drive. Ha-ha!
