Ran into this a few times and never figured out what have caused it. Usually I would rebuild the mesh over again but this was a pretty complex piece that I would like to keep if possible.
Inside the red lines are faces of the mesh that are not turbo smoothing...I have no idea why..
I've made sure that its all welded, normals are not inverted, not separated by smoothing groups or materials. I've even deleted the effected faces and remodeled them back in and it still does it!!! :banghead:
Any ideas or solutions GREATLY appreciated...

Its a bug of some sort, I have tried everyhting in the past to fix this issue, only thing that seemed to work is rebuiilding those affected faces or the first fix I mentioned

seems like it's just a bugged mesh that needs rebuilding, not in the sense of doing it from scartch tho.
the obj trick should work, another option would be to throw away the turbosmooth, break all points, merge again, edit mesh, edit poly. turbosmooth again. sometimes stuff just gets borked up for odd reasons

if you use the turbosmooth modifier you can use the "show endresult toggle" as a shortcut
Similar to that solution, I usually add a mesh smooth modifier with 0 iterations which usually fixes it.
