MODO modeling issues. PLEASE HELP!

So Im not exactly new to Modo but Iv been having the same problems over and over sense I started using the software. Im using 701 on a mac.

First off Ill say if anyone can jump into a google hangout with me and just explain this stuff It would be way appreciated! Tutorials and videos are great but its become really taxing, time consuming to try and fix this stuff. Especially with Modo because its not super popular.

So the root of my problems is symmetry and working in symmetry. It seems like the longer I work on a model the more the program messes up. Now don't get me wrong I know this is partially normal. to fix it I usually split my mesh down the center, mirror it and then center it on z,x or ALL. Sometimes this doesn't even work and it drives me nuts!!!!

Recently this problem popped up on a sci-fi hallway I had just started making. It follows some of the same methods used in Vaughn Ling's tutorial.

Here is a shot of what I made. Sorry if the Reflection view bothers you thats how I like to Model.

So Basically I have a 5 sided hall way. I wanted to model all 5 walls separately and have the instances make the hallway. Because the walls are at such weird angles and I Didn't want to have to model them at that weird angle I wanted to make the main mesh lay flat and off to the side.

Problem is when I do this symmetry breaks down and I cant model the thing.
Funny thing is when I re opened the scene to take screen shots for this post the problem was for the most part fixed and I could mirror and model with X symmetry just fine. But before I couldn't mirror any mesh without it putting the object a mile away and modeling in symmetry wasn't working. Keep in mind the only thing that is different is the day Im working on the scene. I had moved and done nothing different. WTF?

Its a totally erratic and frustrating problem. Its tough to even explain.

Good example

so X symmetry working fine.

But Z is not!
I promise this mesh is super symmetrical and is in the dead center so wtf?

Like i said the issues I have are hard for me to explain but if someone can help me that would be awesome.
I really just need to meet people who use this software. I love a lot of it but I'm not going to put up with this anymore. :poly127:

Any info is awesome. Tuts, videos, posts.
Thanks for taking a look!

I suspect it's not exactly symmetrical on Z.

    Couple of ways around that...

Try selecting the mesh (all of it) and then, in the left side modelling panel... go to the Basic tab and select Center Selected > Z.

Or from the top menu, go to Geometry > Symmetry Tool, and that'll let you align the verts on one side of the axis over to a symmetrical position on the other side, ensuring that symmetry works again.

I use the side menu center drop down all the time. Ill go through and use all of them centering the mesh perfectly. Most of the time it doesn't move because its already centered but just to make sure ill use all of them. Then ill loop cut or slice the object and mirror with no fix.

I haven't used the symmetry tool I don't think. So ill definitely try that. Thanks!
I bet i just don't know all the tools to fix this problem or maybe Im modeling like an idiot or my version of the program is just broken.
