Racing game suggestions?

I forgot how much I loved racing games. I've been playing GTA online on PC and all I do is race and checkout my sweet cars.

I loved the shit out of almost every F-Zero game, Mario Kart, Extreme-G, Wipe Out, etc.

There are so many different racing games out there that I'm not sure which would fit my taste.

I prefer something that doesn't require in-depth knowledge about cars, because I really don't know a damn thing. GTA makes it easy because you just select the "best upgrade" and just drive cars to test to see how they feel.

Grand Turismo? Forza? Project Cars? Need For Speed? Any others?

Which is a good racing game for someone in between casual & hardcore?

I thought need for speed: shift 1 and 2 was pretty good.
FlatOut series are fun.
Had a lot of fun lately playing burnout paradise and split/second, felt a bit bad for not playing trough split/second when it came out.

I second this, it's a lot of fun. The community on PC isn't that large but there's always people to play with and the game goes on sale for less than $5 pretty often.

The latest Dirt rally in early access is awesome rally game, going back to it's Colin roots I highly recommend it.

Also Shift 1 was awesome, it has really nice realistic feel to it, but you can turn on most of the assist so it is easier

If you would like to feel how a car actually behaves at high speed and feel real tracks challenges coming from its sometimes harsh imperfections recreated precisely by laser scanning, there are only a few actively developed and populated simulators: iRacing , Asseto Corsa and maybe Sector3 Raceroom

"Need for Speed: The Run" is great fun if you like sprint races. I have a racing wheel and while arcadey it really felt like a great drive across the country. And the action gameplay moments were legit.

The story and characters are completely stupid and bland but you rarely see those and everything else is amazing.

HIGHLY recommend finding a driving force GT (ps3 and pc) if you can.

I would definitely recommend death rally for mobile devices. Great fun!

I'll also have to go with a shameless post and suggest Driveclub for PS4 if you have the console. I'm not a devote racing fan but found DC easy to get into with little car knowledge, the handling also sits between arcade and a sim racer. I've also liked the GRID and NFS series, not much of a sim fan.

I really enjoyed F1 Superstars and Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed. I haven't found a sci-fi racer I've enjoyed since Wipeout HD.

Whoa, how can this thread exist without anybody mentioning Forza Horizon 2?

Such a rad game, and absolutely gorgeous to look at.

The game is much less customization crazy than Forza/Gran Turismo. There is even an 'Auto Upgrade' feature which simplifies customization down quite a bit.

Forza Horizon 2 looked really fun but it's an XO exclusive sadly . If it got released to PC I'd definitely try it.

I actually second Split/Second and while it's old F-Zero GX is still a really fun game to play.

And now I feel like I should find my old consoles and start playing Extreme-G again I loved that series.

YES!

Quick question - how hard was it for codies to get their head out of the fireworks! and "RADICAL!" sand that they'd been taking the Dirt series down and get back to their roots making the new dirt game? Was there much internal fighting/debates about doing a pc rally game with a bit more 'sim' physics (less casul audience)?

Usually a pretty decent price on steam and in the sales, the dlc packs are great. MP is...slowly coming along. Looks pretty sweet, sounds good and if you have a wheel, best ffb in a game so far.
