you really need to get some more variety in the music Ive watched the 2 min game play video and Im already tired of that riff. everything else is so awesome It would be a shame it fell short on something so simple as music variety.
Well there will be a variety of music, but it will be all the metal genre. I personally love the music and metal. And the guy CVB that is writing the music used to play and write music for the awesome metal band Celtic Frost.!

So it is gonna be pretty metal, and i never ever get tired of that!
dont misunderstand me here, I love metal too, and it fits perfectly with the style of the game. what I ment was the riff itself, was very monotone and i suspect you would grow tired of it quickly unless there is more variety in the tracks themselves.
Yes i have done all the art/animation/deisgn my self, I work with a programmer (Asa Dang) as well who builds all the tools that we need to get the game in place within Unity 3d. recently another friend joined uS (Drew palmer) who is taken care of more loading screens/promo stuff.
but for the most part it has been 2 people.
Here is a live stream i did last night going over some Slain background/INdustry stuff, and a full playthru of the current Demo
with beer and wine.

Oh wow! The visuals are just eye popping! It makes a huge impact right away with the choice of colors and the pixel art style. Looks like it will be fun to play too. Keep it up!
YES! I'm following this development for a few weeks now, and just found this thread here, awesome. What can I say i'm excited to put my hands on it, me and my team are also developing a pixelart game, with a bit of 3D.
Can I ask you a question? Are you using some kind of propietary soft to produce the anims and sprites? We do, and it help us cut time, A LOT.
Thx!
No i don't use any tools for the sprites besides Aseprite. But everything is hand animated either in 3d first as a base silhouette, then i paint over them. But a lot are just hand painted with no 3d. i only use 3d as a start. But I have been doing this for years so now i can pretty much just paint them in 3d kinda. But I use every tool available to me to get the results i want with no care for tradition as i have all ready made a ton of games with all the nes/genesis , c64, Vic20 Speccy, Atari and Amiga restrictions back in the day on the actual platforms, and have no desire to do that ever again haha. So Slain came about by me going..hmm what if i did pixel art with no palette or memory restrictions. my only restriction is A pixel must be a pixel.
I will be doing a break down of the pipeline after i have the game done, as well as in the art book as well.
but i'm not doing anything that great or cutting edge. hehe more like steam punk pixels. like what would games be like if we didnt (so call) evolve from side scrolling pixels, but we still had same tech.
Awesome stuff. Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I like the low-res gradients in the animated gifs for the smoke and fog effects, it doesn't look like you have that in the actual game from the video you posted? Have you considered trying to reproduce the effect for the game? It seems to fit more naturally with the rest of the style.

I'd like to answer and cpompliment but I have to pick up my jaw from the floor first.
As someone growing up in the 16Bit era this art makes me really happy. When's the game out?
Can't wait for any breakdowns either!
Keep it up!
