Hello everyone.

I'm trying to model a character for a small personal project im working on. Now, i'm modeling a character that will be an NPC. My question is, lets say i want this character also to have a statue version of him.. like on top of a fountain in a certain pose. How would i go this? should i model the character first then rig it? (i apologize for lack of technical terms, i don't know much about animation).

If its only a statue, no, you don't need a rig.
If there is animation involved, then yes, you need to rig your character.

If it's not posed, but there is no animation involved, then you just need some bones to pose it.

Ah okay. So would i need to look up how to add bones to a model?

Because of having a character which will need a rig nevetheless, if you plan to animate him, then you can simple put the rig into a pose fitting for the statue and apply/bake this pose to the mesh to get a new static mesh. You can modify thiis mesh by retextured, modified (broken arms), poly reduction etc. to fit your imagination.

Interesting. Is there a good tutorial that shows how to do this process? How to bake a mesh into a new static mesh? i wouldnt be able to just duplicated the mesh? I'm learning so much from everyone. I appreciate your help.
