For my final piece for my individual project for university I decided to do a large sci-fi environment. The idea behind it was to be a laboratory with an AI core (hero piece) at the centre and have a clean and sharp art style. My main points of inspiration for this were Tor Frick's sci fi labs and datacore environment, Wiktor Ohman with his "dayward inc" environment, Glados from Portal and the system shock 2 homage on the polycount forums.
Not all the design process and progress is here as it's very image heavy and is in my university thread, but i'll include the main things. (If you want to see any breakdowns or extra renders please ask )
I'm still tweaking lighting, post process and the odd texture as well as doing a fly through video.
nice! looking very promising! : ) Lots of really interesting shapes in here, but it feels a bit cluttered and uniform. I think you would benefit from cleaning up some areas visually, like the walls for example, and having a bit more variation in the lighting so its not so uniform. Centering the light around the middle pillar for example.
@ snefer Thank you for the feedback it really helps me out. Yeah I agree with you that the lighting needs more work, I'll make sure to go back and re-work it and revisit various models to improve the areas you mentioned. I'll post updates soon! : )
The images read better in the areas with the dark flooring. The white square tiles for the floor should be a darker color to separate it from the walls. I'd consider using shades of gray for your flooring....going darker as it reaches the edges (trim is darker than walkway).
