Sand textures feedback!

Hi there

I decided to go into some unknown territory and make some sand textures. These are my two first so they are not perfect, some guidelines and crits would be helpful. They look fairly similar, though definintly happiest with the darker one. The light one looked too, straight is a way to say it.

Created a variation with water in between the cuts

Was never ment as such so it looks a bit wormy.

Looks pretty good, I like the first one. I would think the big thing would be how well it tiles without looking derivative.

tiles fairly well. Not perfect.

Sorry, I should specify, UV scale the texture down to 0.5 or 0.25 to see how it looks as if you were standing on it.

I think it's there, it just needs to be UV scaled down a lot more to sell the sand.

Displacement is looking good, your material could use some work though. I'm not sure how game engines handle camera based color-shifting, but in Maya using the sampler info node you can tint and desaturate the albedo as it falls away from the camera. Helps with that "sand look".
