Just picked up the substance designer free trial and have been playing around with it for the past couple of days, i am really impressed and blown away with the amount possibilities there are. So after a few graphs and being in the program I started to figure it out and wanted to see what you guys thought of some of my work.
First off is some pretty simple hex tiles:
Next is some basic white tiles:
For this next one I tried something a little more complex. I was going for some wet-ish dirt with some hay strands and some kinda seed but I gotta change the size because the scale is way off and they are reading more like rocks to me.
Sorry I have not gotten back to this school has been busy as of late!
@aaronmwolford Thanks! Im really glad you said something about it because one of my main focuses was getting the grout to look solid.
Here is another material I did this a couple of days ago. This one is concrete, once again nothing too difficult but just playing around with some nodes and masks generators I haven't used before.
@Wasteland Melody Before making the tile materials I was playing around with it 2 days beforehand and had done a couple of test graphs. Once you get into the program and get to messing around with all the nodes and such you can see how the whole thing works, for me it came together pretty quickly. I only really watched like three 10 min long tutorials on their site and they have pretty decent documentation. It also is a plus to be familiar with previous node based software such as Nuke or Unreal's Material editor but even if you haven't I don't think it would take that long to pick up.
Hey everyone sorry its been a while school has been a rush with graduation on Friday! Anyways have a lot more work I want to show to you guys and see what you think. I can post graphs if requested too so you guys can get a feel for my graph layout.
Nice materials! I love procedural stuff!
But i suggest you to add more large-scale details to it like water leaks, footsteps, cracks, chemical discoloration, etc.
@Ged Thanks! Well most of them I am doing just for practice within Substance Designer although a few of them I am using in an environment I am working on at the moment.
@cellers Thanks me too. I'm really blown away by just how much you can do sometimes with the procedural workflow. And I definitely will, I have actually have been working on techniques trying to generate more sculpted large scale looking wear.
Very nice job with Substance Designer. I like their Painter programm too. Working with both is a powerfull mix even if it's not entirely procedural in such a case.

The last one is needing more bump variation. It's looking quite flat and this broke the illusion.

Here ya go! Also I was working on a new presentation look.

What type of matter do you prefer to work on?
