Its been a while since i posted something, so i decided to make a new portfolio for 2015

as now of I feel kinda stuck on what I have currently and where I want it to, so critiques and comments are very welcome and appreciated

Oi, ya nob. Dis is lookin' real noice. Jus wit what I sees here, I s'pose dat ork'z trousers could use some clean up at the waist and stuff, besides makin sure da folds and creases read well to humie eyes.

Nice Start but the pectorals looks a bit flat, especially at the bottom.

Hey dude, good start. I'm still studying this stuff so I could very well have some of this wrong but here's what I see.. Mainly the pectorals look kind of thin, like skin being stretched out rather than muscle. The dude is pretty built so it makes sense the they would have more volume, think about the plane change as they run up on the arm. Also the second large mass on your characters back should represent the serratus flowing back to the scapula underneath the lats I'm not really getting that feel. Also the secondary mass of the spinal erectors is missing and would probably be quite prominent. I hope that helps in some capacity dude.

update: some proportion tweaks, fixed the muscles(hopefully) and started on the his pants

Hey dude looks good but the back is kinda weird to me. I know it's a creature and I know the back on the reference is a little crazy but I did a draw over for you with lats removed as best I could approximate it. I included a reference I thought might help from this thread http://tinyurl.com/kujp7et . Annotations are below.

A - Traps, you got the right idea. B - Scapular Region / Infraspinatus / Teres Minor. These muscles tend not to add much of form, normally kind of flat. C - Teres major - I would make this quite large, it's a pretty prominent form, it needs to run onto the humerus, the triceps actually come out on to the back over it sort of. It also marks the bottom of the scapula. D - Serratus Flowing back to scapula. E- General mass of spinal erectors. F - External obliques flowing back to ribcage.



Sorry for the essay or if I'm coming across preachy, I don't mean to man, I'm kind of using critiquing work as a learning exercise. Again, I could have it all wrong dude I'm still learning this stuff so best of luck.

update 8(on my count lol) fixed the back, looks better now thanks to ncav for the critique



and started on his bitz/gear


been trying to make the blockouts via masking and extracting but getting mixed results especially on the pack straps and the belt, any other methods aside from making a low base in maya, max or blender then importing in zbrush?

Might make it faster in Maya, but just focusing on planes, don't do extrusions until you absolutely have to? I found it was easier to manage mentally and physically if I just left very eraly blockouts as plane. Enough information to know what's going on in the space, but less work.

update 10 starting some block outs mostly extraction, I guess I still suffer from wanting to see it finished lol, need to change that habit, c&c welcome

Iz got dis nice heft to itz, I thinks. I knowz you treedee boyz jus blockin' this orky in, but gesture and riddem-wise, iz feelin good. Warboss would be proudz.

I tink maybe his fingas couldz stands to be a tad longa. Using me mind to paint a picture of it holding a dakka dakka, it don't seemz to have a good, tight grip on da handle.

Unless he's a choppa boy. Dem choppa boyz be brave orkz, wavin' their stickz and blades muck n' about.

Duur BOSS thankz , iz gonna be a sneaky gitz but possiba ta be wid a bit of dakka, so da plan ez gonna have one dakka and one choppa and maybbe a whole buncha stickz hanging about, en yeah ez fingas look a bit short to hold a proppa dakka wiz do some adjustin ta fix dat hehe

WIP 11, adjusted the fingers,a couple more blockouts a little bit of detail just to see where its going with the straps, added a bandana, made me think of naming him rambork(if the Imperial guard have marbo, the orks have rambork ), still have to paintover the weapons and additional bitz c&c welcome

been a while, looks like I wont finish him by the end of feb , made some new boots but i think i may have messed up his proportions?, need critique on which looks better the old boots or the new boots, additional c&c's very welcome

Are you adding the micro noise in texture or sculpt. If latter method, leather could use noise and rougher cracks on top of the elastic wrinkling.

hmm not sure yet, may try via sculpt, are the new boots better than the old one? in terms of proportion its been bugging me quite a bit hehe

I'm partial to the old style with the thick ankle lip. To me, it grounds the porc better in terms of weight.

Danke. There's still a lot of issues with it, but I need to lock it in for now for GDC. Hopefully there's time to touch it up later.
