For s ps1 game this hols up pretty well. Final Fantasy 7 and 8 had alot of these and they always felt epicly amazing!

These were the first (and only to my knowledge) game that managed to blend in-game gameplay with CGI cinematics.
I wonder why they've never attempted it today with recents games..Especially since characters todays look alot like CG themselves.
Of course, not the whole game but just key sequences.

Resident Evil Rebirth and Zero on the GameCube and probably some other RPG, that I don't remember, do that too.
I think it's very expensive to implement pre rendered material into a game, in therms of money and resources, you have to constantly stream or load in memory the sequenced pictures, in 1080p and at least at 30fps.
Considering that with a PS3 you get what you needed to do in pre render on the PS2, is not worth any more especially for gameplay purpose, as it's also very limited in what the player could do. Even though, don't know if you noticed, but many games now days are some sort of interactive movie, with a precise path you have to follow, pressing a button on the right time, etc, all boring stuff, they are taking away the joy of exploring the game.
