I figured I'd make a general thread for anyone going
Link to Global Game Jam site
Starts January 23rd - 25th!
This would be my very first game jam and i'm super excited.
Of Course I'm going there to supply art and all.
I'll be going to the one on the Full Sail campus in Orlando, Florida. It also appears that one of the developers for Skylanders Swap Force (Jose Dieck) will be there! So I'm hoping i'll get to talk to him and others about the job landscape in florida.
Earlier I read it's a good idea to post on a forum or something during the jam for advice and such.
I've been asking people this a lot elsewhere but any tips? And who else is going to one?

Don't forget that you can't talk about said theme on the internets until Hawaii has started their Jam.
My most important tip is simple - Get some damn sleep. Really. You'll get a lot more, higher quality work done if you take a few hours off to rest than if you try to push on all the way through.
I didn't know about not talking about the theme. I'll keep that in mind. But I read they announce it all at the same time?
UAnimation getting on the dance floor for the first time
Really looking forward to seeing what eveyone makes.

We have 43 guys taking part, 8 teams and they are all beavering away "16 hours left". One of the hard core lecturers is looking after them for 48 hours straight and sleeping under a desk. I am popping in so he can go have a swim and freshen up while I see how I can help the students.
A big thank you to www.rewindfx.com for sending them all dinner in the form of lots of Pizza! If anyone else wants to send them breakfast/brunch/lunch/tea/dinner/supper:) this is where you can find them - http://globalgamejam.org/2015/jam-sites/university-hertfordshire

Boardgame design is an interesting experience. I'd recommend video game developers give it a try at a jam or otherwise. I think there's much to be learned about rapid iteration and the like.
Here's our board game, Giant Snail will not Prevail.
http://globalgamejam.org/2015/games/giant-snail-will-not-prevail
It's on the complex end of the spectrum with the likes of Lords of Waterdeep and Forbidden Desert being among the inspirations. It also has giant monsters and robots.
The character model is done and i'll post it soon but here's the concept i designed for the character for our game. fortunately we have some decent and also willing artists doing other stuff because i've spent about 24 hours modeling texturing and rigging this girl O_O
All worth it to see her in game a few hours ago XD
Lesson learned tho, when you're pressed for time go with simple hair! Could have literally cut my time in half.
Our students made 8 games in the end, feel free to try them all. If your in a hurry try "Raspberry Jam" as its only 18mb and plays up to 3 people.

1-3 Players. Fast Paced Arena Combat. 30 Second Rounds. Fruit smoothies wouldn't be complete without a few scoops of ice cream! You and your friends play as 1-3 scoops of ice cream that have been left to fend for themselves in a vicious blender - but the blade is only your first problem! Balance on the remaining marshmallow blocks and use your wits and your skill to out-manoeuvre your friends, whilst avoiding the constant rain of exploding fruit coming down on your head. Last icecream to fall wins!

Wow seems like you guys made some beautiful games!
Props to Jovcern too!
January 2016, last weekend of the month
Best game ever made #confirmed
Game looks cool! Will try it at lunch
(I was on the rasberry jam team! )
You guys were on a whole new level! I was on the Debris team, thanks for tipping us off on the cast-to function in BP, we were stumped for quite a while
It was a good experience there, fully catered. They closed the building from 11pm to 8am though which added a lot of stoppage time though. It also ended with no expo. We presented our games on a projector, cleaned up, and were told to leave I'll be going back to FullSail next year. Playing everyone's games is the best part! Ended up being the 5th in attendance *worldwide*. 135 jammers w 23 games produced.
We had a lot of problems early on, switched engines twice. Ended up w a neat little driving survival game where you run from 8 tornadoes in a small town. I did buildings, pickups, foliage, and scrambled the level design together at the end.

First time ever doing low resolution pixel-art, both horrified and pleasantly surprised how it turned out.

I regret not going to more game jams in the past, 1 project for 8 / 48 hours time is just too nice
Ah so thats what it was, when I first signed up I saw Jose Dieck on the full sail list but didn't see anyone there who met that description when I got there (was kinda excited meeting local dev). I did work with a dev from 50 cent bulletproof (he did the UI) so yeah that was fun XD. Never thought I'd get to say that.
I was curious about the other one since a discovered a few groups went there, one being Burnout Game Ventures? You guys managed to get a lot done though :O. Props on your game!
And yeah the expo was a lot of fun. Even fully beat one of the more difficult games few others could. Was not much time left for out team though XD. Unfortunate there wasn't one there.
Dude that seems a lot like an idea I had where the world ended and a demon possessed/infected boss had to keep his business going and workers productive while being invaded by all sorts of things.
