Hey Polycount!
I've been lurking for a long time on this forum and I've been in education for about a year (wasn't really that helpful though).
Recently I've really been trying to improve my texturing and I think a critique would really help.
The images below are of a photo frame, 44 tris and a 1024x1024 diffuse, spec and normal.
Please tell me if the images don't work.
Thanks for all the help!

Also I just noticed the spec is really dark on this link so I brightened it a bit

If there is supposed to be a piece of glass, its not reading like glass.
The grain in the wood is not "popping." Bring that definition out more both in the norm and spec. Though, the piece looks nice.
What are you rendering in?
I would also advise you learn/pick up PBR texturing. (Physically Based Rending) DNS is starting and for the most part has become an older method. It is still used but the path the industry is going is PBR.
I'm rendering with mental ray in maya.
Yes I do need to practice more PBR but I thought I needed to get the fundamentals of DNS down first.
I'd just go with PBR.
Up to you.
