Hello fellow
Polycounters! Lando_Mange here, I work for a Studio called
Paradox South, which makes most of the graphics used in
Paradox Development Studios' titles, as well as some work for titles published by
Paradox Interactive.
Examples of said titles can be:
Crusader Kings II,
Hearts of Iron III & IV,
Europa Universalis IV,
Magicka Wizard Wars, The Showdown Effect etc.
I'm starting this thread, and the thought is to have it as a hub for posting all the work that artists from Paradox South, Paradox North and Paradox Development Studio have created!
If you wanna see wires, textures or the like, just ask, and we'll see what we can do!
As reference,
these images are probaly most valuable for the ones out there currently working on strategy games, seeing the models are genereally low poly. But there's some zBrush sculpting and such in there too sometimes !
Make sure to check back now and then, as more Paradox artists may post their work over time! These images below are just a small part of what we've created and what we're about to create.
Enjoy!

EDIT: Putting in some The Showdown Effect Screens here, more about this stage below!

Erik, any possibility for high res images?
Here are some more unit renders from Crusader Kings II!
*intresting fact, the last image, the african unit pack, was the first DLC pack we created as a team!
Nice, will post more tanks later :P
Well, the Charlemagne event images where made with the ingame size in mind, so their upscaled versions are not super beautiful, but when we add the new event images for The Way of Life il make sure some high res versions get up here as well
What maps are used in Hearts of Iron?? Are there normal maps? What engine is it run in even :'D
Hey man. Hearts of Iron 3 uses Diffuse Maps and Specular Maps, no normal maps (this will change however in HoI4! : D). We kinda "fake" a normal map effect by using Photoshop layer effects and bevels/shadows in the diffuse, and then punching up the contrast on the different specualr areas in the spec. Sometimes you almost make yourself believe you have a normal map that way : P
The engine is the old in-house clausewitz engine, which hasn't aged all that well now, but there's a new one fore the new games that's pretty sweet
Yeah I kind of figured It all looks good, even without normal maps!
Any environments coming up later?
I'm gonna post our environments (two wild western levels) for the game The Showdown Effect sometime tomorrow possibly!
The theme was a Wild Western setting, it ended up in two different levels called South Eastwood (a traditional wild western town) and Fort Fiesta (a mexican fortress).

Screenshots of the actual level:
South Eastwood
A quiet (too quiet) Western town, with a Bank, a Saloon, a grave digger's shack and a intricate minesystem below it all. When the Showdown starts, the banks vault blows upp, fire starts pretty much everywhere, cowboys are dueling in the streets, a thornado strikes and earth worms resembling those from the movie tremors starts to show up :P
And oh yeah the mine has an volcanic eruption!
Fort Fiesta
And old mexican fort, with an entrance, a jail section, a fiesta hall and a weird basement. And of course, the must have Pinata in the middle. When the showdown starts, things cathc fire and monsterlike spiders invade the fort, there's even a mega spider running about outside among the mexivan mountains!
Most of these are DLC, but some are also from expansions I believe!

Hey man, I'll see what I can do, it should definitely be something I could fix, are there any particular models you'd like to see?
Thanks man! Well anything would be nice really. Both Character models and objects like the tanks or ships would be awesome! thanks in advance!
Hey, sorry for the wait, I've been very busy with stuff :P
Here's 4 wire-renders, I'll upload more later! But managed to squeeze out 4 of them for now!
Some intresting details in this, such as the Marshal's horrible leg tunic geometry can be explained by the fact that that guy never moves in games, he just stans around ideling
But yeah, I promise I will post more of these over time!
I'm quite interested on the wires and textures of Europa. Any chance of sharing those?
But hey, I work at Arrowhead Game Studios now instead so I'm happy!
