How much it will cost me a 3D character / rigged

Hey folks,

I'm really behind in the art marketing, but I'll need in the future a 3D character body & eventually facial rig?

How are the prices going? It should be somehow impressive work(lol?) high poly...

I know it's very subjective, but... any examples or numbers are greatly appreciated!

I think people are a bit hesitant to throw out their prices just like that, thats what negotiations are for =P

but, if you want good quality work I would argue youl at least pay a few hundred bucks.

and again, so many variables are in play here. is it for mobile? lowpoly?
handpainted? realistic? Rigged? PBR? last gen?

you could look in the job section for freelancers, reach out to them with a brief of your project and an example of what you want, then ask for a quote.

So... The artist will have a big influence on the idea as well, something that maybe he will enjoy too. So... don't know $300-400 will be possible? Or very unlikely?

You're a student so it's not like we're shooting for pixar quality here. So I'm gonna say, 500 bucks. (that's the low end, but you should be able to find someone, probably another student to do it)

If you wanted something really fucking exceptional, a lot more.

If you want to hire some chinese dude that doesn't speak english except through google translate, then a good bit less.

What if I pay for a finished product? For an example, the artist already have something completed and I get that? Then it will be cheaper?

For an example I have a thread, and artists show me already completed work that they can share with me to use?

Yea, if someone has a personal project that fits what you need, and if you're not intending to make any money off of your student project, I feel like most people would share it with you for free.

Great news! I'm really interested into level design, and playing with Unreal Engine 4, but... I think I can handle everything else, but not the 3D character... it's just impossible. It requires so much talent and hard work, no easy way to get around it. At the same time, the alternatives are MakeHuman, DAZ3D, Maximo, Autodesk character generator... and I really don't like it. It kills all the mood.

... if you don't really care much about what the character is, there are a lot you can grab online. Some are more affordable than others. Check TurboSquid, for example.

If you just want a character in the scene to showcase your level design, there are many generic male/female basemesh you can get for free. If it's not for commercial, you can simply ask.
