Hey all!
Im studying Computer Animation at University in the UK. At the moment I'm in my final year of graduating and I'm having a problem coming up with ideas on what I could essentially write my 'essay' on.
I've chosen to create an artefact as well as write an essay. I'm currently creating a high poly character in ZBrush for a client who's making a game. So even though its for a game, I don't need to focus on creating a low poly model/ poly counts/ baking, I'm just concentrating on the high poly.
Therefore, I have to write a literature review on 'high poly modelling' but I seriously can't find any literature on high poly models? The articles published need to be current.
Could you guys help with a question that could be the title of my essay? 'High Poly modelling' is very vague and doesn't really approach anything scientific. And I haven no idea what could stem from high poly modelling.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
PS, I'm a newbie, so sorry if I've done anything wrong!

Otherwise, Ryan Hawkins' Vertex is a good source of current workflows and challenges and trends, and I guess you could argue it's peer reviewed. As far as I know, books also count as accepted sources for dissertations. D'Artiste Character modeling could be useful resource. Any whitepapers by e.g. Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks, etc. could help. Some games also come with Artbooks and making-ofs. Use the polycount search - I remember there was a book thread ago and some link to a guy who reviews artbooks. Some of them are quite technical, in the sense that they cover modeling.
Also you should less care about scientific and more about "novel and new" in the context of your dissertation. For example discussing a new workflow/modeling trend in depth would make a great topic. Or even texturing, e.g. Substance, Modo, nDo, Houdini, etc. There's all kinds of viewpoints you can take - artistic, technical/tool, or in the context of the bigger production - probably depends on what exactly you're studying.
Good luck!
