We are looking for a 3D Character Outsourcing Manager/3D Character Artist. Applying candidates should have at least 2-3 years of video game industry experience, experience managing outsourced assets for 3D characters, and strong modeling, texturing, and rigging/skinning skills using Maya. Team:
You will work with the character art team in an open table seating environment that encourages daily updates, teamwork, and data driven decision making. This working structure fosters an environment where team members get to know each other very well because the success of the entire project relies on a group effort.
Day to Day:
Manage, track, evaluate, and process outsourced 3D character assets from initial hand-off to final delivery.
Maintain quality standards with our vendors through regular check-ins and art reviews.
Write creative/technical specifications based on requirements set by AD and TD.
Check submitted art against aesthetic guides and give feedback and compile notes on areas of improvement.
Ensure that 3D character assets are game ready and check files against technical specifications, including importing into game engine and testing.
Create 3D character assets for next-generation mobile games. This will include modeling, texturing, and skinning for meshes with low to mid poly counts.
Other art tasks as necessary depending on your particular skill-set and interests.
Collaborate and iterate with a passionate in-house team crafting a fantastic new game for mobile and tablet devices.

Requirements:
2-3 years of video game production experience.
Relevant experience working on game projects reviewing and approving externally created art assets.
Experience modeling, texturing and skinning 3D character models for video games.
Strong understanding of video games development and the art-creation process.
Ability and willingness to give regular art feedback to external partners.
A good eye (or two) for art, and the ability to make subtle distinctions between good models and textures and ones that don’t meet aesthetic requirements.
Excellent organizational skills and technical facility.
Strong cross-functional communications skills; verbal, written and visual.
Good 2D and 3D skills in Photoshop, Maya (Modeling, Texturing, Skinning). Familiarity with 3ds Max is a plus.
Patience, diplomacy and clarity. Ability to take direction well and to play well with others. No prima donnas!
A desire to grow your skills and experience and to share those with other artists.
Flexibility in schedule to communicate with Asian outsourcing teams when necessary. Ability to speak Mandarin a big plus.
Must be available to work full-time at our offices in San Francisco, CA.
