Hi everyone! I've updated the navigation for TexturePix to try and make it a little easier to browse through texture categories when on any texture or category page. Hope it helps!

Hey guys, I've got a question for you. When using textures (that haven't been tiled) how long will it normally take you to tile that texture and create from it, the relevant texture maps you need? And do you create all the texture maps (diffuse, normal, specularity, occlusion, displacement) when putting textures together for your models?

Hi everyone, just a heads up! Since the launch of the TexturePix project, it has become very popular, so I had to move it to a new server. You might have been using www.texturepix.com anyway which would have been redirecting you to Doodlebox Photography where TexturePix was being hosted. However, TexturePix now sits on:

    www.texturepix.com

If you've already registered for a free account, don't worry as your login details will still work. If you do have any problems however, by all means let me know!

    Cheers!

Hello! :) I would just like to bring your attention to a great cause I'm supporting through TexturePix, the Alzheimer's Society. TexturePix runs on donations to help support costs and keep it a free-to-use resource, but in receiving donations towards the project I also want to give back to charity. You can have a read about the charity I have chosen to support with the donations receiveed:

If you're like me and love to download free stuff from the internet, don't bother with this one. Owner of this site is monitoring user activities and if she finds out you downloading her photos one after another, she will take measures :)

At first I've got very polite and very unappropriate message in my mail box, asking if I'm by any chance trying to steal her photos :poly117: Even though I never had such intent, and the issue was settled down (or so I thought), my download limit was lowered to 5 (from 10) textures per day (even though this seems to be global change for all users), and today I've found out that my download limit was reduced to 1, which is ridiculous, but I have no reason complain since she is providing free content and have right to do whatever she want.

Just beware that it might take a very long time to download all textures. It might be even impossible if she decides to ban you after that. I have no patience to find if its true, so I've just deleted all her stuff from my hdd.

Well, to be fair, this is exactly how they've outlined the terms of use for the site, so I don't understand why you're surprised.

Read the license terms before using a textures site.
    http://www.texturepix.com/license-terms.php

Very important info in my opinion, since I need to know if I'm covered against copyright infringement, when I want to use textures in my freelance 3D work.

Also, they should be reimbursed for their time, and for their hosting costs. If someone uses a spider, or downloads a big chunk of the site, that costs them server time if the host sets a cap.

Right, if download limits are so restrictive.... Then buy the textures and download as many as you like?

I have to say, I am impressed with how quickly this turned from seemingly a hobby to a full blown service. Well done!

actually, I've read it number of times and I still don't get it.
    - Stockpiling with the intention of reselling or redistributing any textures
    - Stockpiling with the intention to create your own texture library website or service

I had no intent in doing any of these. Technically I was stockpiling, yes, but it was for convenience reasons, its just way simplier to browse textures from hard drive, rather than previewing cropped versions on website. And I make it clear to her, after receiving so called 'warning' email, even though it was more like politely worded insult and not so much of a warning.

I guess other 'reasons' for stockpiling can be covered by this
If any user is suspected of stockpiling images by consistently downloading multiple images of the same category over a period of time, you will be sent a warning email. If the activity continues your account will be suspended.

but meh.. just ban me staight away, why bother with limits? it looked more like she had no reason to ban me, but was constantly annoyed with me downloading stuff and decided to complicate things.

Well, I would seriously consider buying myself a way to download textures in unrestricted fashion, but unfortunately there is no such option. You can donate and you can buy already made seamless maps, which is nice, but I don't want that.

Besides, even if there is an option to increase download limits, the licence still says: no stockpiling, which seems to be the issue here.
  • Eric Chadwick
Did you try contacting them and asking for a way to solve the stockpiling issue? I bet a polite request along with a donation would go a long way.

yes, right after download limit was lowered for the first time from 10 to 5, I wrote her a letter asking why and what can be done to increase it back. I didn't offer any donation though. But anyway, there was no reply.

Thanks! :D It's become quite popular in the short amount of time from when it was launched, so I thought I'd put even more effort into making it a better service :)

Hi, I'm not quite sure why you thought the message sent was inappropriate - as stated in the license terms, any stockpiling would be questioned. The message sent to you was friendly and more to do with enquiring why you wanted to stockpile, in no way did I accuse you of any malicious activity. You were not singled out when it came to reducing the download limit to 5 downloads per day, this was a global change - as the site grows I have to keep an eye on bandwidth. So I'm not quite sure why you feel victimised.

The license terms are pretty clear, after the initial message I sent out to you, your actions remained unchanged, which is why your limit was reduced further (an email was sent out to you with information on this and how long this reduction would stay in place - please check your spam folder). I didn't go as far as to ban you from the site, as that to me is the very last resort. The terms-of-use apply to everyone who uses the site - a certain amount of fair usage should be considered, this is after all, a free project.
