Hi guys and girls,
My partner has just started up a new website where she's offering free, high resolution stock/texture photos. At the moment she's just going out (pretty much daily!) and taking pictures of everything she sees
But if you have a texture that you want then get in touch with her and she's more than happy to accept the challenge! Of course, if you want to just let her know what an awesome job she's doing then that would be fine too
Here's the site:
http://textures.doodleboxphotography.co.uk
You can get in touch with her on Twitter or Facebook.
Twitter:
@doodleboxphoto
Facebook: facebook.com/doodleboxphotography
I'm potentially going to start converting some of her photos into tile-able texture/map packs so if this is something that you'd like to see then let her know and I'm sure she'll give me a boot.
Cheers!

Rather then make them tilable texture packs it might be worth making them pbr ready textures? If she used a Macbeth chart with her photography for accuracy . she could sell them as packs pretty well or as a premium option.
I don't have Fb or twitter, never really been into social networking but her a well done from me

If you've had chance to check out the textures so far or even use any of them, I'd love to hear your feedback.
Cheers!

Glad to hear it! Let me know if there are any textures in particular that you'd want to see. I'm building the collection up everyday, but I can prioritise getting certain textures over others
-Tamara
No problem! Hope you find it useful

Not to rain on your parade, but you should really get some sort of license up there. Like, is this public domain kind of free? Then people could d/l everything and resell it themselves. That kind of thing.
I'd recommend taking a good look at the licenses over on Creative Commons. You can tailor it to whatever level you like.
More clarity is better! Especially important for those at professional studios who might want to use your work. Gotta be careful.
Thanks Eric, glad you like them!
I totally overlooked the licensing (which is unlike me), I'll definitely get something together today. Thanks for the heads-up

Absolutely not! I'll see what I can do this week

Either way I'll always be checking Polycount and carrying on any discussions in this thread.

I have one suggestion. It might help if you could shoot with a zoom lens, to minimize barrel distortion and blurriness towards the edges.
It's great you're shooting in shade, and/or cloudy days. I like the grass textures a lot.
Hey Eric, Thanks for the feedback. I was noticing the barrel distortion in some of the earlier images too, so I've switched to using the top end of my zoom lens (I have a 24-105mm) - hopefully this will help, and if not it might be time to treat myself to new one
Glad you like the grass! Thanks to England's predictable gloomy weather, there's always a cloudy day when I need one

This was a request I got emailed last week, so more will be added to this category over the coming days. Keep sending over your requests if there're textures that aren't on the site that you'd like to see!
Cheers!

Quick question: would anyone find a 'Download all' button useful by any chance? Giving you the option to either download all textures from a top-level category (e.g. Nature) or all textures from a sub-level category (e.g. Nature > Grass).
-Tamara
I think it would also help to see what the full resolution and file size is for each texture. When I downloaded one I was pleasantly surprised how large it was (15mb, 5k by 3k).
Do you have a RSS feed setup for notifying people about updates? I like to use http://changedetection.com to send me email when a webpage has a significant change, but it's not as nice as RSS.
Hey Eric. Yeah, I can definitely look at adding the file info. Do you think there would be any benefit in having different resolution images to download, or do you think just having the highest resolution is fine?
I'll look into adding an RSS feed. Thanks for the link.

Weird, Firefox doesn't show the lightbox image viewer, instead it just loads the thumbnail image as a distinct page. Chrome does a great job though.
Thanks Eric. Yep, any new textures will be announced in the feed. I'll take a look at Firefox, thanks for letting me know
No problem - you're welcome!
Hey Eric, which version of Firefox are you using? As I just tried clicking a texture to bring up the light box and it worked. But I'll test it on the version you're using.
Cheers!

It's a security tool which blocks javascripts etc. by default. I set it to allow all scripts on your site, but it still blocked the lightbox for some reason. Disabling it, reloading your site, re-enabling it, and reloading your site... this fixed the problem.
I know others use this tool to protect them while browsing, so I've made sure my portfolio site still displays without any scripts, or at least with alternate non-scripted links. But I realize not every site can do this.
Thanks for letting me know. I've tried to keep javascript to a minimum on the site, but the lightbox seemed like the best way to display the larger thumbnail image. Glad you managed to find a way to enable it though.
I've had a look at your website, you've got some great work on there!
The resolution on the wood textures is just right.
I noticed they don't show the res/size info on preview?
You're welcome! Yeah, the wood textures are the only ones I've not yet updated with the file info, but I'm aiming to get them all updated today.
Just thought I'd let you know that image information has now been included for the wood textures, so now all textures on the site are up-to-date with their resolution and file size.

can I make another request? can you make some more cloth textures, like basic stuff:
leather, jeans, silk, you know, the usual everywhere stuff?
Thanks! And yeah, I'll definitely look into getting some cloth textures:)
I just wanted to give you a quick update on some new changes on the site. As of now, in order to download textures, you will need to be logged in. You don't have to login to browse what's on the site, however, only when you want to download a texture. It's quick and easy to register. have a read of this http://blog.doodleboxphotography.co.uk/login-to-download-textures-on-texturepix/ to find out more.
And as always, if you find any bugs, do let me know and I'll iron them out!
Have a good weekend!
