This gif is super sped up for some reason. Ah well. I spent a huge chunk of time re building and binding all of this. I didnt check my orientations and it turned out everything was F%#*ed. So that was real fun. Either way heres some things. Timings all wrong and everything but getting the oil slick down was what I was concentrating on.
If anyone has feedback do tell. I feel the oilslick may be too hard to see.
I also have not made the bouncing barrel that drops the oil yet :P
And another update. I have to shrink down the fires a whole lot. I set this fire up before I actually made this effect so ended up making it quite large. Geh
Also having some annoying issues with the alphatested meshs behind screwing up the alphablended particles. Yay
Yeah its a bit slow at the moment. Its weird to since the multiplicative texture underneath rolls out fast. Though thats only really visible because of the pixelation.
Thanks for the feedback! Ill fix that up tonight. Hoping I can add the barrels rolling out and falling down too. Looks odd without them.
Nice one Russell, this one is shaping up to be my favorite! I kinda feel like the barrel should bounce a bit, oscillating on an axis. I would get rid of that background texture, I think it's detracting from the effect.
Yeah ill chuck a greyish background on it soon. Though this current textures good for seeing if the alphatested textures are too noisy. I also planned to add some bounce. Im just terrible at animation so im going to ask one of the animators for some tips.

And another update. Now with the fire updated. I still need a base fire texture in there. The explosive barrels that will fall from the sky are still yet to be added. Ill start working on a grey background soon! Im using this to make sure my textures arnt too noisy. PoE is kind of the opposite art style to LoL so I need some reference.
I still need to also add some alpha tested stuff to the explosions.
OK pretty much the final of this effect. Now I can head back to the other one. I still need to add the barrel bounce. Will be getting a bit a few tips on how to do that tomorrow.

Alright back to the rune circle. Animation tweaks suggested by a few on facebook. I still need to add a chain to the sun explosions. Also need to have the black hole glow before it explodes. The suck in at the start is a bit clunky too. Still need to smooth out a few textures as well.
Love your work, especially the barrels - awesome colors and textures used. Kinda reminds me of Rumble's ultimate, can definitely see it as a skin for it. Good luck!
Really cool! How did you do the movement on the ground? Is it UV-Distortion of your smoke texture/mask or do you change the vertices of the particles? Or is it another layer on top of everything?
