First time modelling a car

I pretty much modeled this pulling out edges for each section of the car. It's not even done yet but I'm starting to not know what else to work on for completing it, other than closingthe obvious gaps between sections and getting materials on it.

My topology skills are probably pretty bad, but is something I've never come to work on; does anybody have advice on this? One question I actually came here for is how do I find the right materials for a car? I typically see cars in solid colors so it's a little unclear to me how to go about texturing a clean vehicle.

Basically, what else should I be focusing on at this point?
