Been playing Chivalry for a bit and I've taken a liking to the Knight's two handed Maul. The plan is to create a helm and maul that reflects the Lion symbolism while remaining effective in their purposes.
I started a pinterest board just to get some ideas flowing.
Been sculpting in ZBrush this week, made some detours along the way.
I started off the visor knowing that I wanted it to be the face of a lion. At first I was going with a closed mouth design, thinking that I wanted the helmet to be more regal.
After feedback from other artists, I decided to go with a more snarling, fierce design.
I also separated the lower jaw from the visor. My intention is to create the helmet like it's constructed from multiple sections.
For the mane part of the helmet, I added metal panels to represent the hair. I'm not sure how well it's working right now. I might just drop them and just sculpt hair details from the helmet, instead.

Been adding some fine detail into the helmet this week. Going to add a bit more and (finally) move on to low poly. I'm thinking of adding more filigree details to the visor; maybe something to represent hair.
Watch out on the inside of that helmet. The shaders are not double sided in the engine. The head might be in the way on the inside so you may not notice but just letting you know.

Way too big and not rounded enough.

Getting there but still too big and too many.

One rivet at each end seems to work nicely.

I also decided to cut holes in the visor to aid in breathing.

With the rivets placed, I went back and refined the soft edges with the clip brush.

Instead I sculpted hair for the helmet and visor, along with an added crown.
Here is the result:

I've spent enough time on this sculpt. I'm moving forward to low poly and textures.
