I know there are a few larger studios using it...what are the results like?..I'm a bit skeptical..but would love to hear user impresions ( and for whatever engine...not just Unity)
It's great for background stuff and can work individually within instances. But it will still break normals on hardsurface types either way. It has good edge detection tho and lots of sliders heh, which is more advanced than most optimizers we've tried atleast.
We used it on Hawken (UE 3) for environment and mech lods. They're a little messy, but pretty awesome results for how easy it is. A couple gripes though, sometimes it's a little buggy, and the other thing that sucks is it makes everything a water-tight mesh. It hates planes, and wastes geo putting a cap on every open surface. So we actually ended up manually optimizing some of the bigger meshes. Still pretty good stuff though.
@COdy...it's been a grip....Hope all is well in fixture land...I'm working with a few small teams that this is going to be a huge time save if it works properly..the consensus seems to be positive..
does anybody know whats up with auto desk project kahn thing? i think if you have a subscription you can log and and use simplygon through the cloud???

Personally, I don't think it's amazing, but it can be a reasonable way to make some really quick lower detail meshes for the less visible LOD levels.
