If I had to guess it is because years ago Polycount and Game Artisans had some major drama and a huge falling out. They tend not to involve PC in anything anymore. Nothing to stop you from joining under a different banner though.
oh right, I forgot some drama happened between PC and Game Artisans... It's a shame the PC community has to suffer because of that though Well I guess I'll join another forum just for the contest
Yeah, I would love to fly some PC colors for this. Oh well. I'll have to decide which forum to go with because I'm actually pretty excited about the idea of this contest.
Can I ask what happened between Polycount and Game Artisans?
eeehhhh, it's really old news now that doesn't really need to be dredged up. The short of it is that PC didn't like the way they ran contests and some of the other decisions they made concerning artists so they decided to jump ship and do their own thing.
All in all it worked out awesome because GA has their slew of contests and so does PC. So, you know. MOAR CONTESTS.

Dominance War was mired in problems from the get go. Poor communication, undelivered prizes, delays, extensions, etc. I assume it just got tiresome to deal with.
why wouldn't you? as polycount isn't involved in the competition, it would be like asking your mom for crits, nothing that says that you can't ask for crits from people outside of your chosen community.
I know other people do but still this is how I feel......
seems like a seriously restrictive challenge and no real prizes? so you are creating promotional art for blizzard, there are a bunch of forums entered into it, but poly-count isn't even competing.
At this point its like having a world cup doing away with the trophy and saying Germany can't play.
I guess we are not allowed to post our W.I.P.s both on polycount (to get critics) and on the community we joined, right ?
Nothing wrong with that. Even if there are separate forums, we as a community of artists are essentially one big community trying to promote our work and develop our skills. "Belonging" to a different forum should have no impact as to how you decide to promote your work.

Whaaaaaa? So, first of all while it's a Blizzard style contest, as far as I can tell Blizzard is not affiliated with it. Just like Marvel and DC don't sponsor the Comic-con challenge, it's just a fun contest. Even when it comes to prizes it's mainly interviews and the like, nothing concrete and that's ok. Some people like to just make art and learn. As for polycount not competing, well I won't lie that it sucks, but it shouldn't stop anyone from actively competing if they want to.
Cremuss - There is nothing stopping you from posting your work in a thread on PC and getting critiques. In fact, I would encourage you to do so as you may net some more feedback during your process.
ExcessiveZero > I don't care about prizes, I just want to have fun, practice, get better and this is an excellent opportunity to do my best and add a new piece to my portfolio Plus I don't feel it is restrictive at all, in the contrary it looks more like "a do what you want" contest, 'just have to stick to Blizzard universe.
I think most of the Polycount community is on board for all artists participation in this.
Just on a community/branding level, Polycount has been burned numerous times from the way GA run contests, and felt it was just bad business being associated with them.
I might have a go, I was thinking of making my character from Diablo 1; it's my chance to make a woman without boob armor or battle-heels. I might up my specs since there's no limit, 1024 diffuse and 2k triangles sounds good
If a bunch of PC people get into this I wonder if we should make individual threads here for critiques or one big thread and everyone can dump their WIPs into for critique (you'd need to make a separate official thread on whatever forum you represent for the contest). Something similar to what happens for the monthly environment or character challenges (or when people make their mini-civil war stuff), but specific to this contest. That way we can critique each others work here on PC without creating a ton of different threads. Thoughts?
I'd love to see a single thread for all the awesome projects! And I guess once it's opened in P&P more people will join in. (Many might not know about the challenge by now, I found out about it this morning, due to a comment in the monthly character challnge)
I guess we are not allowed to post our W.I.P.s both on polycount (to get critics) and on the community we joined, right ?
Of course you are allowed to make threads, as many threads as you like, for your entries in this or any other contest, even if it is in no way affiliated with polycount.
We do not restrict the sort of content that you guys can post in any way, except if it was illegal or something of that nature.
Each artist is free to post a thread for their entry in pimping. If someone wants to start a blizzfest WAYWO feel free to do that as well.
You dont need to hide the Greentooth logo at all. There is nothing in the rules that says you cant have it in there. The rules only state you HAVE to have one of the pre selected forum logos and colors in your piece.
I see no problem with a massive greentooth logo and a small logo of one of the other forum sites to comply with the rules
I think a single thread for all of us will be nice.
Errr.... anyone knows if it's ok to make a Wraith Pilot ? Instead of, you know, the Wraith spaceship itself. Or, you know, a Battlecruiser Commander instead of the ship itself ?

"Player characters are not allowed for this challenge. So creating a 3d barbarian from diablo can't be done. Best thing to do is to find something similar or close to what you'd like to do if it means that much to you."
LOL, guess I'll just make my own entry outside the contest with blackjack and hookers. Or since it's a silly arbitrary rule, I'm making a rogue from Diablo II, yes she's my character from Diablo I but in II the rogues were deligated to NPC status, nanny nanny poo poo!
That actually got changed from people pointing out that it would more or less neuter the contest and is now reflected in the rules posted (you may be reading through the Q&A thread?)
From Diablo, WarCraft, StarCraft, HearthStone, or World of Warcraft... take any normal character, player character, creature, unit, npc (non playable character), or monster, and make them into a Storyline Hero. Exceptions, no unique one-of-a-kind entities can be used for this challenge.
So, yes you can make a barbarian or rogue from Diablo or a human mage from WoW or whatever. What you can't do is make Azmodan, Thrall, Raynor, Stitches, Hogger, Zerutal, etc. No named one of a kind characters.

"Yes, you can join any team forum you wish."
So, take that as you will....
ok. i'm done.

You can pretty much just search general for dominance war or gameartisans to see the saga unfold
We'll do what we can to spread the word.

so what community does polycount stand closes to?
We'll see, we'll see.

I would ask here. Fred has been pretty quick to answer questions, or you may find your answer from someone who has already posted.

I'll be joining in on this contest! Glad to see there is talk about here. Think we can do a BlizzardFest Google Hangout too?
Also, incase somebody hasn't seen this before, here is an hour long video about World of Warcraft's current art direction! YouTube Link.
A great day in PoCo history.
hahaha YES THIS! I was quite shocked at that myself.
That was a fun week!
