Hello I made a topic a few days ago on my portfolio that is at http://www.badgerarmored.net and from the advice I decided to try to fix some of the work that I have up. I started with the Viking helmet, I rendered this new image in UDK4. I tried to get marmoset 2 to work but every time my poor wifi drooped out and I could not register. [IMG][/img]LVKvlVM.jpg I tried to implement techniques I saw online, if anyone can give advice or a crit it would be helpful with this new render. Also does anyone know a good tutorial I could do for the fur around the horns? Is there a way I can do it in Max or Unreal?

Thanks
Nick

Man, I know you probably don't want to hear this, but this looks really rough. I think you should take a step back and focus on the fundamentals a bit. Maybe just pick one part if this like a horn and get feedback on that until you tackle the whole helmet. Basically, I can't really tell what I am looking at. None of the materials read really well. Do you have a concept or reference images you are working off of?

I was trying to be creative and make something of my own to mix a viking helmet and futuristic type helmet, JbQDeGp.jpg yi63gkZ.jpg were some of what I was trying to go off of for ideas. As for fundamentals, I thought I was doing fine and spent a long time modeling and texturing. I have no industry job but have been at this since 2006 when I graduated from AI. I am at this alone up in Minnesota, I try to make art that is good and want to move on within the year to the industry as loans and other bills get higher as well. I just thought I would try to explain myself.

Hey badger, you're not alone, I live in MN too!

Try focusing on just modeling the helmet at first. Currently the textures you've got are distracting from the forms and shapes and make it difficult to critique

Right now I don't know what I would model different for the helmet, I made. Would it be better to try to model the viking like helmet in the 2nd photo from destiny? It looks pretty straight forward to make if I did or make my own twist on it?

I would try modeling something directly from a concept at first (like the destiny helmet). That'll allow you to focus on getting the forms right, and not have to worry about coming up with a design and modelling it as well.

I think you're relying too much on the texture. Why don't you try modeling all of the forms via a high poly and baking it down to a low poly?

I can try that and post a non textured model of it doing the destiny like model on this thread
