sort of revive / update on this, long story in short - I haven't worked on this since around the end of june, got busy at work and my motivation died away.
My plan now is to move this over to Ue4 as I was having issues with ce3 that I was too lazy to fix.
In the mean time here is a mouse driven run down the WIP hallway with some hacked / scripted events happening, all at the same state as in june/july, nothing textured
This is amazing, really awesome stuff! Love seeing a fan service for SS2, specially so well done! Grats.
PS. You're gonna hate me for this cos it's so nitpicky, but in the video, what annoyed me a little bit was the amount of specular aliasing everywhere, it can be easily fixed by tweaking the roughness maps.
Hi. Could you pls make 1080p images of the screenshots so that I can use it as wallpapers. This is awesome. Good to hear that you are moving the project to ue4.

This is one thing I was going to say. Tone those roughness maps down a bit and this will look even better!
DrunkenAresenal - that is brilliant. Thanks for that!
HP- PoGoP: I agree, completely, apart from it being a smelly fraps view port capture this was also with a flat mid grey roughness as no actual material work was done. Which is a good thing now that I am moving to ue4 and would have to rework them for that! This is something I will definitely keep an eye out for it. Thanks!
The first thing I'm doing before moving over to ue4 is remaking the droid:
Would be great though, if you attempted to capture the subtlety of SHODAN's face from the original (SS2) rendering, which is akin to Mona Lisa's smile. Maybe even go with a full-blown Buddha's smile, as seen in the aforementioned concept by JimHatama. It might help translate the character better than a somewhat bland expression in your current iteration.
Registered just to post this drive-by suggestion for improvement on an already awesome accomplishment—great work either way. Congrats!
I think I've just made a mess of myself. You can't believe how happy I am that you have chosen to take this project on board. Apart from the original Doom series, this game was and will continue to be one of my all time favourites. Excellent work so far.
hi .. i registered just to post this message (as the first )
... this looks totally aweome .. but imho it does not reflect faithfully the ss2 athmospere .. looks like other game
as i said in your youtube "shodan revealed" video ... seems too much "mechanical" or "transformer" coming from physical world than "virtual" or "holographic" or an illusion coming from neural projection images injected directly in your brain by cyber implants
also, this shodan looks like adjutant from starcraft2 or eset nod32 logo ... too rounded eyes with a plastic "mask" and hoses coming from around .... but actually is more like tangled electric and fiber cables that suddenly came to life with a slender and EVIL face... cold and with so BAD INTENTIONS that scares ..
try to make it like terminator3 robot but only with black green wires and cables with angry eyes (yours are orange and white with rounded eyes)
about your protocol robots ... i think are based in star wars c-3po .. but much more obsoleted, abandoned and misused, almost hand crafted
.... are like dirty and stained bonze with a dark yellow shade, skinny, made from tubes and pipes, with a "fish can" as head ... yours looks white and boxy as if it were taken from portal game
also remembers me this character from galaxy fight arcade, that seems is made from cans
quote=Mr Smo;2071261]Hi All,
For the past few months I've been slowly slowly chipping away at a scene based on the old school game System Shock 2 (1999), if you aren't aware of what the game is then you can check it out on steam.
Unlike my previous works, this is in CE3 - I got sick of light maps and thought I would give this a kick. With the approaching release of the PBR based ce3 update I have been loitering on it, researching how to make stuff do things.
I am planning on remaking this particular sequence: - spoiler warning!!
Loved the System shock 2 game but the graphics were a bit bad even for the time. But this is my dream game. the best game with great graphics. I would pay money for this.
I gave this awesome remake another try by adding "flashbacks" from 2016 System Shock and a different sound design and timing. (also removing the ugly fraps watermark )
In a comment under the original video, mrsmo clarified that this project is on permanent hold unfortunately. But he'll probably be hired for the SS2 remake anyway if they can make a good enough offer.
This remake is so impressive! And I am glad to see that you designed that serving robot EXACTLY like it was in System Shock 2 (but with actual graphics standart of course) and I hope that the Cyborg Midwife Monster will also be as creepy just like it was in System Shock 2 There are System Shock 2 mods, but these mods somehow completely destroy the immersion and the creepyness of the orioginal game because of stupid design choices. For example of the Cybog Midwife in the System Shock 2 Rebirth looks cute, and not like some creepy half mechanoid half corpse monster with skinned face anymore - what a STUPID design change!! http://www.moddb.com/mods/system-shock-rebirthhigh-poly-pack/images/exampel-screen3#imagebox
I hope you keep going on with your precious work and keep designing the monsters, Annelides etc. just like they were in System Shock 2 without immersion-breaking design changes. Have you already tried a Cyborg Midwife Monster remake for your game? I would DIE to see some screenshots or ingame videos of your monster creations Finally System Shock 2, still one of the best survival horror sci-fi games ever (forget this Dead Space and other console nonstop action trash....), comes alive again!

Even Ken Levine tweeted the project.

basically this project has been a casualty of time, I haven't had much of it to spend and so it's stagnated.
I did get one piece out before it was put aside:
I hope to revisit this again in the future. Sorry to dissapoint

with a few extra additions here and there.
Anyways, you may have seen some of these shots in WAYWO thread.
My main drive for this is based on a concept by JimHatama, you can see it below along with a shot of the 1999 shodan:
Here is the current state of the most progressed are, Shodans Chamber:
At this point, I haven't textured anything beyond a flat colour / normal map.
A shot of the initial hallway beyond the bulkhead you enter from:
A floating shot of Dr J Politos office, this will break apart to reveal Shodans chamber. Again, no texturing yet.
Good old Xerxes
and some obligatory work in progress shots from the initial stages:

Lastly, a rework of the protocol droid:
I hope to post some more as I progress, now the new PBR ce3 is out I will move in to that from here on.
any crits / comments would are welcome!
