Where to find good house blueprints?

Hey, I was wondering where one might find house blueprints for reference. I'm trying to create some suburban houses, and having good blueprints to look at would be immensely helpful. Where do you fellow house modelers find blueprints or something similar?

What have you tried? Seems super easy to find these.

The problem with most of these, is that they are incomplete or low res, and you have to buy the blueprints, sometimes at the cost of hundreds or thousands of dollars. I was hoping someone here knows of a free blueprint database or something.

What's the end result for? How accurate do your houses need to be? Most game artists just "wing it" and design something that only works well as a playable space, not as a physically accurate repro of a real usable house (because that's usually not "fun").

You can probably find a good number of them at a library or in any place you can find out-of-copyright books. I'm pretty sure I've found some in Google Books before, and I would bet there are some hiding in Project Gutenberg. You'll get things up through the 20's that way. For more stereotypical suburban, look for the housing designed for soldiers post-world war 2. That will always read clearly as suburban and should be public domain.

if you do find some, be sure to scale them up about 10-15%.
otherwise it'll feel really narrow and confined in game.
