Morning all

i have a question.

i would like to subscribe to digital tutors so that i can learn to do CG and Game Art, but i would like to know first if it is a good idea to use them?

from what i have seen on their site they seem to be really good but i want to find out from people that have been in the industry for awhile.

the reason i would like to use them is because i can not afford to go to an art school and i have to work to survive so i can also not go to school full-time, are they a good choice or is there any other online place similar to them i can use?

so if you guys don't mind giving me a bit of advice here i would much appreciate it :)

I think they are pretty good. I only used them for a couple months but it was user friendly and helpful. I think if you can afford it, the gnomon online classes or DVDs would be better. Good luck man!

    Hi Evan

I am also self taught like yourself, I personally would start here http://ctrlpaint.com/ go through the videos in the library a few times, even if you don't draw, which even a basic level of digital drawing will become hugely useful, the concepts of perspective, scale, colour theory, repitition, all that good stuff will come into play across any medium whether its 3d or oil painting.

Digital tutors is a fantastic service if you need to learn the basics of how to use the software, but may feel a bit slow after time when you have found your footing, then you could find youtube tuts (vary hugely in quality) or 3D motive could become more useful to you as they go deeper into the advanced skillset.

you can find many 3Dmotive tuts on Udemy, I mention it because they often have huge discounts on their courses so its well worth keeping up to date with them.

Only other advice I can give is get in any practice whenever you can where ever you can, I had to take a lone security guard night job to pay the bills quite awhile back now, and I used those 6 months to solely work on my drawing, given the hardware, books and drawing skill I got from having 12 hrs a night with nothing else to do, it was time well spent.
