I'm surprised that nobody is talking about custom game modes yet!
Personally I think custom game modes will be a great addition to the workshop.
I've read this on
http://www.ongamers.com/articles/dota-2-7th-march-patch-content-analysis/1100-1001/
Custom gamemode strings.
+ "game_mode_15" "CUSTOM"
+ "DOTA_Workshop_SubmissionType_CustomGame" "CUSTOM GAME MODE"
+ "DOTA_Workshop_SubmissionType_CustomGame_Desc" "A new game mode"
+ "DOTA_Workshop_CustomGame_Help" "Custom Game Mode Help"
+ "DOTA_Workshop_ImportCustomGame" "Publish Custom Game Mode"
+ "DOTA_ItemTest_CustomGame_Intro" "Here you can select your addon folder and have it packaged up into a .vpk for publishing."
+ "DOTA_Workshop_ChooseCustomGame" "Select addon folder"
+ "DOTA_Workshop_ChooseCustomGameDesc" "Select the dota_addons folder containing your custom game mode"
+ "custom_difficulty_0" "Normal"
+ "custom_difficulty_1" "Hard"
+ "custom_difficulty_2" "Insane"
What do you guys think how this will be done? Do you think Valve is going to monetize on mods? Keep it free by players subscribing to mods? Let's talk!

Besides, custom maps are already being developed and are available in an unofficial capacity. So yeah, this is basically just he code for the "submit" button ^^
Anyway, old warcraft map favourites would most definitely return. TD's would mostly be satisfying again.
