In week 9 we are going to have a change of format. Commador will be kicking off a new thread. We are thinking of moving to a format where the OP changes each week.

Guess to try and get more life out of the challenge and have a broader range of items to model. Guess having different threads you can see who picking the object
Although it only been the same group that been participating so having it all here might make more sense

Hi guys, I've made a little tutorial about one of the technique I use the most for poly-modeling (image is the link to the tutorial - pdf format).
Hope you enjoy
Sorry to revive this thread I know it's been a few weeks since anyone has posted but I was going through it and holy shit this just blew my mind. I particularly like the smoothing groups one. do you have a wireframe of the rim by any chance?
Just saw more people posted, you should post in the current thread for feedback. Looks like everyone did it correctly. Plus some of the first 8 weeks where some great modeling pieces
Recently I have been sitting way too much in spreadsheets and I just had to do some modeling so I googled hard surface challenge and this showed up
Here is my speed modeling version:
When it comes to the bolt, I have done a bolt tutorial a while ago (which I would modify heavily if I were to do it over, but then again, that was my approach then:) It has been quite popular so I hope someone learned something from it.)
Alright, my quest for hard surface mastery starts here, i´ll try to do at least one of these per day while i´m also learning the tool, in my case modo!
I think i need to take a little bit more time with each piece starting from now, maybe this was called weekly challenge for a reason, try to model the same thing in different ways and find the best method instead of justing calling it done after doing it once! but alas, heres my third piece http://i.imgur.com/vbJsab7.png
Took a stab at week 5. Ended up making a few proportion mistakes but it was a good exercise to get back into a Maya/Zbrush oriented workflow. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/NaJwz
Hey guys, haven't really done a whole lot of hard surfaced modeling. But figured I should get started on practicing this, since most of my work is low poly. Here's the Concept1 bolt modeled.
Hard surface models do not come easy to me, so This means i need to practice. I'm going to go one by one, down the list each week, hopefully improving.
In my off time while I'm doing these projects. I'm reallly enjoying it so far. MOdeling these without the aid of Either Dynamesh and, or Mesh fusion really requires me to adapt a different mind set. My thoughts have to become much more meticulous and over all much slower and more thoughtful.
Having fun with this one, There are some clear changes I need to make, missing a few holes. I don't think I"m going to put the bolts in the model. I am having a difficult time with the edges inside of the two holes on the top. (I've actually got to re do those, they're not circles, they're more ovals) . Oteherwise, having a great time with this one.
I had a much easier time with this shape, a few things however. -How would you go about getting the text on the side of the piece? I figure the best way would be through a normal map. - What is this piece called?
This one was/is remarkably difficult for me. I might go back and tackle it cause there are some glaring issues that I see. Otherwise its done for now. I"m trying to keep up the Pace of one of these models per week, up until I get the whole list done. So far, its been a great, and fun process.
Hey guys, anyone still has the reference gifs and images linked at the beginning? Some dropbox links and gifs from users were taken down. It'd be cool if someone could reupload these somewhere.
Starting off the challenge. I'm not super familiar with subD modeling, normally I use remeshing to get my highpoly. I didn't want to spoil anything until i completed my model, looking through other posts now it seems like I interpreted the lower part of the bracket incorrectly. I guess this first model is a lesson in attention to detail 🙂

keep an eye for the thread around Saturday!
Why would that be beneficial?

I tried to stay semi low poly on this one, but I see I could probably clean up around 100 faces here.

This one took me quite a bit of time to model, but MAN i learned a bunch doing it.
There are some issues, like the lack of holes in it, but otherwise. I'm in to it.
(double posted - my bad) 😅
