Hey Friends! So I've been working for almost 2 and a half years on this project and we just announced it today through Game Informer. Pretty stoked and wanted to share .
The game in a nutshell:
"The sci-fi multiplayer-focused shooter pits a four-player crew of alien hunters against a separate player-controlled monster that grows larger and more powerful over the course of matches"
HAhahaha! Even playing it with randoms found online is something I avoid. I enjoy the way the game plays when its with folks who play it 'serious business'. Great game that way.
The ragequitting plaguing the L4D1 and L4D2 online matches definitely affected the fun factor after a couple months into each game. I will say that regardless, the 4v4 aspect of L4D was definitely some of the most fun I've ever had in a co-op/online environment.
The AI was ... ok in L4D, Adam, but the whole point of the experience was really to play with others. I'd rather play a really good PvP/coop type game than another diluted experience like a lot of the current coop games have become (with hacked together AI systems to cater to offline/singleplayer). Who knows though, maybe this type of game would do well with an AI driven character.
Will it come to WiiU? Might sound stupid, but I feel that (if porting costs are reasonable) it can carve out a pretty little niche because there's not too many (non-kid) games plus this should work well with the tablet controller.
Fun fact: We actually built all of that back cover in CryEngine and did a little bit of compositing and touchup in photoshop for the final. Was pretty cool to fly the camera through the frame and show coworkers that it was all game assets and nice lighting.
I'm pretty happy that our game art can go toe to toe with concept art for a magazine cover Can't wait until you guys can get your hands on it.
I remember hearing about this back when THQ would come to visit the studio and tell us what people are working on. I've been waiting in anticipation for a couple of years as well
I remember playing L4D at my first Quakecon before Valve had their hands on it. You guys know your shit, and I can't wait.
This should be sweet, L4D was awesome - I remember little bugs in the game that I think were patched a while after release, e.g. the No Mercy campaign at the gas station, you could break through the garage door by repeatedly punching it... Also the lesser known 'magic washing machine' (as we called it) in the house at the end of Blood harvest - stand on top of it, go idle and you'd be transported back to the safe room XD
I really like the design of the monster, very slick. Very excited to see turtlerock put their multiplayer design skills into a new IP!
The pre-orders bonus's seem really crass though. I'm guessing its a suits/publisher decision to time in with the big press releases, but it's such a blatant money grab that it almost seems deceitful. So many titles have done this and then fallen flat now that it touches a bit of a nerve. Definitely put that on my "Trends to die in 2014" list.
Always make sure to announce the announcement of your announcement. If you just announce the announcement, how can you expect anyone to know that you're going to announce the announcement?
I always recommend at least 5 layers of announcening for optimal marketing performance.
Looks very good! My only concern is variety I guess. With L4D you had the whole A - B as well as avoiding the big tank but this seems to be more focused on just killing each other? In other words I'm just worried it'll get old quickly.
I'm sure they'll be plenty of game modes to spice it up!
Visually, this is looking really good. That creature might be the best I've seen in a video game to date. The damage fx (burned skin, bones showing through, etc) is great.
Is anybody else the trailer is just so ... standard? The song is so well chosen, but then it's just some dudes walking through a forest shooting at a monster, all rather unimaginative. Not talking about the game or the concept of the game, just purely the trailer. I'd hoped for something a bit deeper, slower paced, a bit more refined. Like the music.

Lol... i actually just turned off the trailer after like 10 or 15 seconds in. Looked kinda generic, thats for sure. I was hoping for something more along the lines of Monster Hunter trailer type.
impressive looking game, but the concept for me might get old quickly.
Shooting at the same monster.. over and over again... i just don't know man. It doesn't feel like it'd give a whole lot of satisfaction or 'moving the game forward' playability.
First impressions can usually wrong tho, so I'll wait to play before being too critical.
just read about the logo for this and its breakdown and thought it was really interesting haha
The game this logo is for is multiplayer. It pits four players against one. The four are humans; the fifth is a giant monster. So they're evenly matched. This, everyone, is a brilliant logo.

they mention somewhere that there will be monster variety.
Not only monster variety, but i think they also said that everytime your monster levels up you choose skills, no? skill tree, plus maybe perks, plus loadouts for the mercs can make for different experiences depending on which monsters you go with and gameplay.
It's a really fun concept and beautiful art. Just hope in game plays sake that it's quite a slow progression while the monster eats or whatever while being hunted. And the last level part is kind of the defeat zone. Then again I doubt people will enjoy that and just want action and more chances at being the monster...
I don't know if any of you played those old warcraft / starcraft deception custom mods where there is a group of people and there's one alien amongst a bunch of humans and usually some sort of 3rd party group as well to keep the spice up.. But that really explains my kind of liking for slower stealthy or deceptive 20-30 minute progressions. (And it's essentially the exact same monster concept of skill trees and specializations)

Seeing this 4v1 thing already has me a bit concerned, in that respect
That's what the "looking for friends" option on dating sites is for

Looks awesome regardless.

it says 4 hunters vs 1 monster, if so 4 vs 1 seems unbalanced. are there 3 more supporting co-op roles for the monsters ?
4 co-op versus 1 person playing the boss in a boss fight. IN that respect it seems it will be balanced, all things considered.

Doesn't work.
Success all around!
