The armor is seeming pretty samurai, but I think that's more of a construction issue then a material issue. It seems Chinese plate/leather armor drapes way and is pretty form fitting as well compared to samurai type armor. Check out a couple of these pictures.
The plate armor feels looks way looser, and has a much tighter silhouette to the character due to the draped approach. Also I think the helmet is really pushing the armor away from traditional Chinese helmets. The ref above shows that the facemask idea is completely acceptable, but it seems that the crests are much smaller, and mask is extremely intricate.
I'm not too familiar with anti mages general readability in silhouette but those are just a couple things to keep in mind while working on the piece.
When drawing armor, I was guided by it.
