Well, Syx finally arrived... it's a bit disapointing compared to the others 20cm figures, she's only 12cm... The details like the rings are impressive but the face really lacks details, we don't even see the eyes at this size.
The problem is, to print it bigger it needs to be hollow, and I don't see where I can put the escape hole... Maybe in the belly with a small piece printed separately to plug in and fill the hole ?
I'm not even sure people would buy a bigger, more expensive version. This one costs $35, it's kinda cheap I guess.

usually when my prints look badly finished, since my printing company
claims to do a final finish (like some sort of sanding idk waht they rly do)
and it looks too rough ill just send them back... since 3d printing is
so new a lot of companies still think they can do what they want here (middle europe)
so you should be quite picky and they will try harder to make the prints beautiful
i know they can.
but at least your prints dont have that much of discoloration... sometimes i get prints
that are really greenish colored and have weird discoloration all over i always wonder
why they even send that failed prints...

So he said that it would took too long to look for all that and that I could do whatever I want, as far as she looks like Tyra. And he paid in advance, so I don't have any reason to not trust him, right ?
Anyway, I took some refs of the girl, and then I realized that most of her pics show a nearly perfect front view of her face. i only found one pic from the side... While trying to sculpt I realized that she was of course photoshopped in every pic, and she also wears a bucketload of professional make-up. Going to be hard getting the likeness if she looks different in every pic, but I somehow managed to get something not that bad.

Already told my client that it was not really legal to use someone's image but as usual he doesn't care, there is so much celebrity porn on the net already posted on popular sites like DA. I still suggested changing her name at least, she could be any girl slightly looking like Tyra.
I have something about using copyrighted material, not using someone as a model. Even in AAA videogames they use celebrities as models, and it's sometimes really obvious.

I finished Chloe a while ago and Jack printed it. Should get some pics soon.
Also started to work on Jenny Poussin yesterday. Can't show you the refs, she said the pics weren't released yet, but you'll find a shitload of pics on her gallery... It's a bit misleading though because most of her pics are photoshoped...
Hair is placeholder and the costume is only painted for now, just to get the idea.
I reckon the anatomy is a bit iffy atm. The back view of the legs is great but the front is off. The knees are slanting the wrong way and the opposing curves on the lower leg front are not quite right. The calf looks like it is hollowed out.
I see. Yep it isnt translating over to your render in the flyaround because the profile is not the same for every angle. Looks ok in the flat render but not in the viewport render (canvas or whatever). You see on the 3/4 front view that the thighs have not enough volume and curvature on the forward line and there is too much mass on the front forward facing knee. In fact the thigh in profile could do with a bit of curve as well. The waist while probably is meant to be cartoony is also too thin to be in balance with the front view.
These are just observations though. Also you can use 2d ref as a guide but when translated to 3d there is nothing like looking at the form from all angles I think.
Yeah I only have a single photo of her legs like this, so I tried to complete with other references. It's a bit hard because every model has different legs and slightly different muscles. And Jenny seems to modify her body quite often with gym and body-building ( and photoshop... ), so even her own legs are not the same on every photo.
Anyway this won't be the pose I'll use for the 3D print so everything will change, her legs won't be straight. But again I only have a single view of the pose and I'll have to complete the rest.
We plan to do other prints of her so I hope she can do some nice refs shots from several angles.
Alright here she is, Jenny is gonna print it. Latex doesn't look good, we'll avoid that in the future. I tried to bake a shader with a render to texture in Max but it's not really good...

Man, I absolutely love how outrageous some of these models are. It's fun, sexy, absurd, and hilarious all at once. You must have a blast reading through some of the commission requests.
I do apologize if you're answered this question before, but I am genuinely interested on how Shapeways handles the NSFW content. Although I'm not exactly racing to reproduce my own sexy sculpts (yet...:icon15:), I was reading through the various FAQ's they have listed and it very clearly states in the Shapeways guidelines that they won't approve NSFW models:
Some examples of content that is prohibited and will be removed (private or public) are sexually explicit content and weaponry (we are allowed to make an exception for miniatures - maximum size 10cm)

We may refuse to host and print material that we deem to be inappropriate for our service. Examples of inappropriate content includes, but is not limited to:
Content that may infringe on the rights of a third a party.
Content that contains hate speech in any form. Content that contains nudity that is explicit sexual content and/or not artistic in nature.
Content that exploits images or the likeness of minors.
Content that depicts violence, is obscene, abusive, fraudulent, or threatening.
Content that resembles weapons or weapon accessories (exceptions are made for miniatures, maximum size 10cm). Material that is generally offensive or in bad taste, as determined by Shapeways.
So...do your models/commissions fall under that exception as long as it's not posted to a public Shapeways storefront? It seems somewhat arbitrary.
I think they'll print anything as far as it's legal, for private users ( not sure they'll be ok if you do a nude loli or anything related to pedo ). I didn't show the result here but a client requested a print of a black girl with a giant didlo. I don't know if he printed it yet, but he didn't tell me they refused either.
As for the public store, one of my client did put Icy on his and they didn't remove it ( Icy is a furry with giant bare tits, so it's clearly against the rules ). but maybe nobody ordered it so they don't know it's here, I don't think there is a control on what you upload, unless someone alerts them. It doesn't mean you should put sexual stuff for sale though. I think artistic nudes are OK but they are flagged "not family friendly".

The inconsistencies of their service is baffling to say the least. They should either accept or refuse, instead of picking what they like and what they don't.

And yes, he found a private company in Austria that does high quality color prints. I guess they could also print stuff for my other clients, but they don't have a shop so we could sell our Syx and Jenny figurines...
The other big problem with Shapeways is that they printed some parts of the characters they refused, like the base or tail, which already cost $100, took the money and didn't print the character itself. Like, they ship half an order and don't care if the parts are useless without the main character... it's not only stupid ( all the parts are from the same order and have the same name, so it's obvious they all go together ) but highly unprofessional. I hope my 2 concerned clients get a full refund on this.
Not really, characters I really like doing are rare, and to keep acceptable prices I don't have the time to do them good. Always rushing and doing approxmative anatomy. I really wish I could spend more time on some of them.

I feel like it's weird that you act like you don't have a choice. The truth is you do. You could charge your clients more to give you more time on the model, but you chose not you. Maybe you think you'd make less money, but if you have a solid track record, probably not so.

Keep in mind that she asked me to stylize and enhance her a bit like a comic book character, so I did a thinner waist and changed her hips a bit.
