Hello! I'm pretty new to the 3D art scene so I'm looking to post my works in progress here to keep me motivated and to get valuable feedback to improve myself. And hopefully I'll be able to make a portfolio along the way haha :P

Right now, I'm trying to work on a Valkyrie based on this concept art which I did myself.
Its not fantastic I know, but I'm trying to improve my 2D art skills as well haha :poly136:. I do understand that this reference image is not enough and I should have drawn out the different angles to get a better idea of my subject. Mental not to self, I will definitely do that next time. But for now, I'm trying to do this model with freedom and fun in mind.
My plan is to use a female base base which I will model myself and have the armour pieces modelled separately.
This is what I have so far.
This is the female base model.
And this is with the armour pieces that I have modelled

Any thoughts on it so far??
While creating the bottom half of her armour, I discovered that the shin guard in my concept was not feasible in 3D so I put that off for now until I find a better idea. Also, I shrunk her shoulder guards so her arm looks more mobile now. In addition, I tweaked her chest plate and forearm guards to make them more fitting. I do like the minor changes but what do you think??
I shortened and widen the base of her neck. Since I'm planning to reuse the base mesh, I also widened her ankles.
I did a quick research on medieval breastplates and found that most had a flat front so I mimicked that in her breastplate which I think made it less organic. I tweaked her shoulder plates a little as well. Also "fattened" her fingers too.
For her hair, I made it like a "hair cap". I first used a plane and formed it around her head to the rough shape I would liked it to be. Then I just sculpt the hair on layer by layer. The method was pretty fun to do and simple and I think the results were pretty good but what do you think? Maybe I'll use fibre mesh next time haha
I think I'll pose her and render out a still image then do some post-processing??
- the feet don't look like feet ( I mean, the boots )
- everything is smooth, doens't look like solid metal
- you forget to put something to hold the shield...
Now you can continue to work on it, or finish it and make the next character better. You say that you looked at references to modify the breast plate, why not do the same for every piece of armor ? If you are trying to do something realistic, you should look how armors works, how do the pieces hold together, where are the straps... A cuirass for example is generally made with a front and a back piece, it's easier to be put on and off. The same goes for almost every armor piece.
Now if you just want to do some fantasy stuff, you can keep the old cuirass you did, it was better.
I added seams and straps to the pieces of armour to add believability to the model. I also sculpted a scratchy base texture and bumps to give a sense of wear and tear and to not make it look smooth. I was going for a seasoned fighter style who was in the midst of battle so I added more bumps and slashes. I wanted to pose her but my computer kept crashing, unfortunately.
I have been working on a demon bust these past few weeks but its going slow cause I'm pretty busy :P So this is what I have so far. I'm going to add textures for its skin soon aiming for a half scaly half leather like skin. I've decided to use this piece to learn how to create my own alphas for textures and also focus on polypainting during the later stages. If you have any opinions on my work please feel free to voice them out
