Yeah, thanks guys. If I'm honest, I'm struggling to stay positive, sent my CV and cover letter by email to over 25 local indie devs, did the same last week and the week before. No ones advertising but I send em anyway and I get no replies or rejections Just want a chance, any sniff of a chance
It is frecking hard to get that foot in the door. Just keep it up buddy! I actually got my job by applying to there generic "interest application - upload your resume" kind of thing. At least here at Avalanche they check those when ever they need someone. Just saying, it's not a waste to actually try that kind of thing as well..

Sorry your thread is getting lost to the madness surrounding this Marty guy.
I think you've got a pretty decent portfolio going on. Keep your head up and working - you'll find a gig sooner if not later.
Don't sweat about three weeks without hearing back - it isn't a whole lot of time. It can actually take months to hear back sometimes, so just try to keep yourself focused on churning out art that you're passionate about.
also, great work on the test dude, i think the environment work looks great, and with the suggestions other posters have made, it will be really awesome.
Theres always going to be degenerates around trying to pass themselves off as something theyr not and abuse honest people.
chin up and keep making awesome art, and real opportunities will find you, no doubt.
That's a good question Justin? Just as, why do people who start a studio with zero funding and work for free business model get such inflated egos?? Ah the mystery of game dev... the mysteries...
yeah, there are people like this in every industry, it just seems like game industry criticism lumps in every game developer at any level all over the entire planet.
why do we include a bunch of people working with no budget and zero funding as part of the industry?
Because if you didn't you'd be discounting about 80% of the indi developers as being part of the industry. And a sizable chunk of the Australian dev community at this point.

Well, why should the way Marty behaves be used as an indictment of the maturity of the game industry?
There are people like him in every industry, does that mean that every industry is immature, no that just means there are bad people in every industry....part of life, its just sad when you see it
Making games is easy, its not rocket science. I know what I want and I know what I'm doing.
If you think 'setbacks' and problems, and challenges, and mistakes, are all normal? I would suggest getting out of the games industry, so you don't burn your pledgers.
You pledge, we make the game. It's that simple."
Seriously who in the right mind pitches a game in this manner?
And an even bigger question, why does he keep using his real name?
I wonder, if in some parallel universe his game was any good and for some inexplicable reason was founded, would he potentially have to put over 20 000 names in game textures? It would be something like "Phonebook: The Game"?

who in the right mind
Exactly. Dude is completely bonkers.
I've had the unfortunate experience of dealing with him and he has literally no clue what he is doing. Has an idea in his head for an action game, has no idea how to build it himself, and so tries to get people to work on it for free.
It's bizarre. The concept in itself isn't even interesting, just a guy running around shooting at enemies, but he can't even pull that simple concept off. It's seriously just an Unreal Tournament map with some bots thrown in and a custom character mesh.
Maybe if he spent a bit less time kneeling before his almighty BAFTA and actually watched a friggin' UDK tutorial or two instead of farming the work out to students and not paying them...
Also, can confirm: "studio" = "my dingy flat"
Seriously though I do feel sorry for the guy. He comes across as an asshole online but I honestly believe he suffers from delusions of grandeur. Dude needs help.
Didn't even push over his parents bid of 11 bucks. I guess that his allowance amount of $11.00 is all he gets a month. He's doing pretty good with his budget if that is the case. !!
You guys are really digging yourselves a hole, EVEN if you to the slightest remotely
create some that releases... I'am pretty sure the EGO that you seem to have
will counter-act any chances of your project having any quality to its work.

haha oh man, you win this thread.
@ Dazz3r...keep it up man! Sorry to see you got looped into this train wreck. I wonder if it sunk in yet how badly this guy hurt his reputation.
Marty is gonna Marty

This right here.
It's embarrassing to all Australians.
The industry isn't that great here we don't need stuff like this. Gah.
+1

Better hurry up and contribute guys.
He's well on his way XD

Marty it's time to go back.....back to the future!
I might try something similar with the area I live in
One suggestion, I think you should add a different coloured part to the wheels, at the moment it all looks like one material.
Some black rubber on the wheels would make it look more realistic IMO

Shake that money tree!
The belly laugh I had from seeing this masterpiece is enough to want to throw a few $ in that very large pot.

Idiot.
