Unable to fill object in zbrush

Hi guys,

I'm using zbrush 4R4. I can't seem to fillObject with Material on a tool that I have been working on. It is only for that particular subtool, others work fine. I checked that I turned on colorize in subtool palette, "M" was switched on. I also tried restarting zbrush but still it doesn't work. I tried filling color then to isolate what is going on and a tint of the color that I select appears on my tool, material unchanged though. I tried switching to MRGB to fillObject and it is still the same as with rgb switched on, just a tint of color, material unchanged. I was wondering if there might be anything that I might have unknowing messed about in the render or material settings that might caused that as I rendering a turntable before that happened.

if anyone have encountered the same problem or can help, that would be awesome...thanks in advance.

I usually have this issue, but it tends to be that I ignorantly left the texture on the subtool, but that's just one scenario.

Could it possibly been inadvertently masked?

If there is a texture, it would have its own material property that you'll need to fill using the Tool: Texture Map: Fill Mat button.

    the texture is switched off

I double checked that viewMask was on and I Ctrl dragged to unmask

the texture is switched off so the options are grayed out.

a little bit more about my problem I realized this morning, when I turn off colorize, the mat I selected shows as usual. When it is on and I paint Material onto the tool, it just becomes black. (see attached pic).

Thanks for the reply guys. :)

With your object unmasked you should be able to fill/paint materials and colors to your subtool, as long as M or MRGB is selected at the top. The Colorize button (this is the same as the paint brush icon next to each subtool) will enable Material and RGB colors display as well as the ability to paint on your model.

Are you only able to paint black? What happens when you change your active color? (Be sure to switch your mode back to RGB from M)

Filling the Flat Color material will essentially remove any materials painted to the object.
Filling the subtool with solid white will remove any color data from the object and allow materials to display as they would by default.

BartalonThanks for your reply. in the image I attached above, I have only M enabled to just paint the material, but a black color appears instead even though rgb is off. I tried filling Flat Color like you said to remove material information but still the same. it doesn't revert to flatColor material when I fillObject.

Thanks guys, I finally figured out why I couldn't fillObject the M, it was a very silly mistake. I didn't turn off the recording mode. I totally forgot that I was trying out layers and had the recording btn on. It was only because I wanted to del higer div to save the tool out as a smaller file to upload for you guys(whoever's interested) to mess about that zbrush prompted that I cannot del higher div with recording on. Then I suddenly remembered that layers r not applicable to Materials. OMG, wtf moment.

Hi folks, I just thought that it might be somehow similiar issue, so I didn't open new topic - when i put colour on my jacket, it works only on Subtool as you can see, but it's not visible on the model. I believe that by accident I turned off visibility on the object somehow, but I can't find out how. Could anybody help me out?
