If you even get that much time. Between commute, family and crunch it can be difficult, especially as you still need time to yourself too.
yeah totally! my estimate of 9hrs a week was going off the idea that you are pretty much using all your spare time. so no reading books or catching up on your favorite tv show or playing video games etc. Not a great life really. Its one of the main reasons I dont enter art challenges much anymore.
It becomes even more difficult if your family involves children - then you need to balance your side-work with the needs of your family. I had always wanted to get into game development in a studio until I saw how volatile the business can be, so I switched to something that's substantially safer in the long run... Which I can at least enjoy doing.
