It's a separate mesh--I just appended a polysphere in Zbrush and pushed it around until I got something I liked. I didn't want to accidentally mess up the skull structure.
I really don't have a clue how to sculpt hair but I plan to invest more time into it!

Time to update the ol' sketchbook. It's been too long! I'll be working on a posed anatomy model for the next four weeks and I'll be updating here. I was given a rigged base mesh to start and I've begun posing. Here's my reference
