I just finished a huge uni project which means I get a little time to make some concepts right now. Im also hopefully going to make a scorpion courier for sand king over the next few weeks with a friend
Hugely suffering from artists block at the moment so I just forced out a couple of concepts to try and get myself back into it...
I feel like that necrolyte staff idea might have been done before, but I havent copied it from anyone. That being said, its mainly just me trying to shove all the old ideas out of my brain so I can start on something fresh.
If anyone has some criticism for any of these ideas or the past ones for lich/puck, I'd appreciate it! I feel like something is really missing from all of my art atm (outside of dota stuff) but Im struggling to identify it. I'm referencing, I'm thinking about proportions and theme and stuff... but it just still looks mediocre and unexciting to me. It might just be a lack of confidence or passion behind it which hopefully will pass over time
Thanks for the feedback I just wanna say though that the bottom right corner alchemist concept isnt up for collab- i think it looks way too similar to a concept that pult did, although i didnt copy it from him i guess it must have influenced me subconsciously
Can I get some feedback for this? I know a previous silencer set in the workshop got a lot of controversy for breaking the silhouette amongst other things- just wanted to make sure that this isnt deviating too heavily from lore or silhouette.
The Aeol Drias mages are said to supposedly be combatants and Silencer is supposed to silence people and then hit them physically as said in his description, so his two-handed weapon on his back seems like a fitting idea to me.
I really love the frontal view, I think the glaive can use some work. I think that the head item shape language is breaking from the rest of the shapes you have, keep it straight and pointy (I'd get rid of the dreadlocks too). Looking really cool!

but the twirl pattern design on the shield seems like kind of ...big different compare with the armor you designed.
Yea I think you are probably right about the helmet. I tried some new iterations, I dont think any of these work yet but I will probably take forward 1 and 2 and see if I can make anything work.

mm kinda disagree, i painted over the silhouettes and they are different enough to separate them (and no worse an offender than the other alch weapons) and the theme of his is about injecting poison onto the blade whereas mine is more a joke on using the fast attack speed as a chemical mixer, and i think the colours are different enough too

well what i should say this,for me i kinda think it is reasonable for injection theme because alchemist basically is a something like tim burton style Bane, so i think it is okay for that...
but i have to take ikes point for the alchi weapon. it doesnt matter if the shape and the colorsheme are different - the base idea is the same, and volvo wont add another same idea for like 99,99%
But chemicals is literally alchemist's theme? Ofc there will be multiple ideas which involve chemicals seeings as thats the base idea for the hero, thats like noting that aztec symbols have been done before for bloodseeker

Both bird hoods with feathers for bloodseeker which have a more similar silhouette and colour than the two alch weapons
there are tons of sven swords which are near identical too, and kunkka is in the same boat (pun)

Hey, Valve turned down our mole courier for being too similar to another courier in the game, we're pretty sure it's the beaver. Don't try and justify it, play safe, not stupid. I wish I coulda used your agurment, but they didn't seemt to budge.
Well its not me making the weapon, its up to Strimax whether he wants to make it or not. Theres no real danger in making it and it not getting accepted either. Im sure it will be a nice asset whether it gets accepted or not, and Strimax seemed like he was excited about making it.
I still don't see why Valve would not want multiple weapons that involve chemicals for an Alchemist. Nature's prophet has multiple bird staffs which look identical, two scythes, Bloodseeker has two bird hoods, etc... I do think you guys are overreacting a bit, especially when everything about the design is different apart from the way that both use chemicals which is integral to alchemist's character. In the same way that its ok that Pult is making mushroom staves for nature's prophet, this concept is fine for Alchemist, because there's more to explore in that area imo.

@Defaultsystem yea Im surprised you noticed but I am doing this for a university project and paying attention to the value gradient and making sure it fits valve's criteria for saturation etc ^^ I didnt think anyone would actually pick up on it though
I made the lowpoly for the magnus weapon and will hopefully be done by the early hours of the morning... I also did a quick test in mudbox to see if it would work to just start off with a projection map and then work from here, and it seems to be fine:
Magnus weapon is almost done! I just have to clean up some muddy textures on the bottom half of the weapon and try and get all the bandaging to show up better (256x128 is so tiny >_>)
I made my Aeon leafling concept more complete and better looking. If anyone is interested in making it then tell me, otherwise I might try and make it myself
Queen of Pain WIP, not quite there yet but pretty happy with it so far. The idea is to give her something more commanding to be able to lead all of her followers, hence the banner-wing hybrid thingys
