hey what do you guys think of my ice low polly ice crystal? my first drawn texture too lol






i seen some really good models with the wow and wild star painted style and i really do like it so i want to get better at this sort of style. anyone know some good tutorials?

Crystals come out best if you paint each surface another lightness.
Take each of those polys and paint another strenght of white over it, with a really strong one at one side on top.



You really need to work on the shape tho

Here are some jewels i made once, theyre 2D but with hand painted stuff, the same techniques apply



Inner glow, Satin and that damn ugly blue photoshop default pattern on low opacity can be used aswell to great effect.

Also make them only so transparent that you barely can see that they are transparent.

One thing i did when i had to make a crystal for my job is take the low poly and bake out a bent normal map just using the low poly as the high poly and if you take the G channel from the bent normal map you should get a map with all the faces a different light shade like mentioned above

@tehSplatt i know you're already talking noob to me but it's not nooby enough. i kinda know what normal maps are but i don't know what you mean.

Maybe you can do it in xnormal? I didn't ever baked out bent normal maps, but there is an option to do it. Just load in HP slot your LP crystal, and in LP slot too, then select "bent normal map".

Then take it to photoshop and in channels choose G channel and I dont know what to do with this channel

And don't render anything on pure black: any gradient, even poorest, on brigh t grey would be better than pure black background. It destroying the image.

A normal map is an image that renders out "fake" height and depth. What program did you make this crystal in? You should definitely look at some tutorials.
