Hello all! A few friends and I are making a side-scrolling shooter/platformer (kind of a mix between DK Returns, Megaman X/Metroid). I'll be heading the Character work and Animation; I've been working on the main character and would really appreciate any comments/feedback you all might have for me. Textures are definitely still in progress.

This is more of an artistic-direction choice, but the grit/scratches you've added in the latest version look a bit weird and random-ish. I think the clean version worked fine without it (the toon style doesn't really warrant it in my opinion), but if you want to stick some wear & tear, it should be placed more logically, wear along edges etc.
I'd tend to agree with Bal about the damage/weathering. It's a bit high frequency and random right now and I can't imagine it reading that well from a distance. If you're going more in that style though vs the sleek minamalistic style like before I'd go pretty bold on some of the border wear so it can read well as interesting variation from the camera distance.
