Photoshop: Converting photoshop layers to allow for ingame color swapping.

ctZWZZH.jpg

Hey guys.
Been attempting to convert these photoshop files to allow for in-game color swapping. However I find the conversion to the required setup to be really hard. It always creates a bunch of issues along the way.

Anyone got an idea on how best to go about doing a conversion like this?

Why don't you use something like vertex colors to change the color of objects in game? or via the materials themselves? Depending on the engine you're using.

If it works with the color layer on top with that mask, just use the mask within an alpha channel and use the shader to overlay that color using the alpha channel as mask? Guess this would be easier and better instead of trying to get a proper method saving those psd files for your needs.

Not sure if its possible (havent taken a look) but a photoshop script where you take the layer which is uniquely named and move it to the top of the stack and do whatever mask is needed etc.

Yeah, if you have a bunch of files setup the same way, an Action could convert them without much trouble. Sample the color from the bottom layer, delete contents, make a selection of the whole file, new layer filled with the sample color, add a layer mask, fill the bkg with white, etc.
