Here's the deal, I took a test for a company, they took a month to respond to my test. I called once to ask about the status of my application or if making more characters while waiting would up my chances. I received a letter in the email about a week ago stating that my entry was alright, but too detailed to be seen from afar.
Another professional about this one and they said that no one could get exactly what the folks were asking for on the first try with rather open ended opinions. Also he said it seemed as though I didn't outright fail, judging by this one . I really don't want to seem like a buggy fellow, but should I ask them again soon and perhaps show example of what they were looking for?
To be honest I was going to ask them again 6 months from now, but I don't want to seem over eager.

Shows you're a go-getter, you've got passion and can take criticism to heart.
If they turn you down then, they were just being polite and it's time you look elsewhere.
^^^ This... Take your test, improve it with any feedback you were given and resubmit. Just say something along the lines of you understood their feedback and wanted to forward along your revisions. Thank them for their time and see what happens.
you only get one shot,
one opportunity,
to seize everything you ever wanted,
in one moment,
would you capture it,
or just let it slip?
And all the while, keep working on your portfolio.
Submit it as soon as humanly possible. If you really want to work there, put a ton of effort into it, work overtime!
