So I have been dealing with a strange issue in UDK today with my normal maps.
This is the same asset, in the same scene, with the same normal map. The only difference is the Normal map that is being rendered correctly was imported without the "Compression No Alpha" box checked.
BAD. Notice randomly shaped highlights.
Good.
So my normal map that was imported with compression no alpha checked, I went into the settings in the content browser and edited it. I turned off compression no alpha, hit re-import, and compressed it. The problem doesn't go away unless I completely re-import it from scratch with the correct settings. Is there away to avoid painfully doing this with all my normal maps?

I tried that. I bit the bullet and re imported all the normals, and reconnected them all back to the materials. I would love an explanation on this from somebody with all that fancy technical knowledge.
No that didn't work. Like I mentioned in my post the problem is the compression no alpha setting when I imported my normals. Even if I change that setting, and then update the texture, it does not fix the issue. I have to re-import the normal map from scratch with compression no alpha turned off.
