@Haz:
I mean, great artists on this forum like Andreas did not get to where they are today by doing their own thing and making their own mark. No. Fuck no. They worked hard at general discussion, sharing thoughts on subjects they have no experience in, and by talking - not doing. THESE are the things that make a great artist.
Whether this is an elaborate April Fool's joke or not, one thing you need to be reminded of is that art is indeed "design by committee" - especially when it is your own material, you are not on a job hunt, and are extremely successful at what you do. Choked on a damn jellybean reading this. This post is hazardous.
Wow, this thread went from- ok, this is some odd yet interesting news.... to oh, duh its a frickin April fools joke... to the most entertaining shit I've seen in days. Never a dull moment at Polycount.
LOL. This should have been a news post on April 1st
Hazardous, I was working with your stream open and had to explain to my dad the difference between art and porn. It took me a while to realise he was just winding me up...
I've actually decided to do the opposite of Hazardous; and from now only make tits and/or ass models. Here is my first attempt at some low poly breasts; c&c welcome
HOLY SHIT LOL.

Oh Gav. I got where I am today by refusing to sacrifice my life any further crunching and pushing polys for someone else. I've been in the game and it ain't that glamorous. My last day drawing a wage as a 3D artist began at 3AM coughing up blood from two stomach ulcers I didn't know I had, after working god knows how many weeks 9AM-9PM, through weekends, under a talentless fucktard lead who was burying us all. And yet you and others talk about this industry and your job as if you're working for Doctors without Borders. Try to stay humble.
You (and a lot of other people) give what we do a little too much credit (making 'art' for business men to truly profit from, not you, on creative projects that don't even come from you). You aren't painting the fucking Sintine Chapel roof, Gav. And neither is anybody else. It's just game art. Tryto stay humble.

Anyways, this is (more than likely) a troll thread deliberately created to incite. Not sure why I'm bothering.
I also don't think that many artists actually PM him as much about this topic as he claims; otherwise you'd see them out here saying the same thing too. All in his head.
Haz just needs the occasional attention-seek, bless his cotton socks.
Have you posted any of your amazing work on Polycount? out your whopping 5,154 Posts? even in the P&P Section? I haven't seen anything and I have so many questions for you master. Before you say you worked your ass off and " been there done that" show it, proove it, and until then please do not try and give people advice about the game industry, and shove your opinions in peoples faces like you're right, especially at people who are good at what they do.

Gav may not be painting the Sistine Chapel roof but he is making/made Characters for Bioshock Infinite and that's pretty damn good if you ask me. YOU Try to stay humble.

I and maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany other artists choose not to post work. Far more talented dudes than me too, that I know of. Maaaaaaaaaaaaany. But we like to discuss in G&D. That is our prerogative. If we enjoy talking about our TV shows here, movies here, games here, that's our prerogative.
And I think there's a stark contrast there. You see some usernames in this thread that you do not see in others very much if at all. People with nothing to add except 'great' or 'you're my master!!!!!'. Then, when it's time to jump on somebody, you better believe they are ready.
But I like chatting with the guys on here that would never take part in something like this. They're cool guys, and I like their opinions.
So why don't I reverse the question? Why don't you contribute more to G&D more? And not with 'I have no motivation' threads please: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87178
You have to go back to the second page of threads started by me to find one that ended in a heated debate (which is fine, it remained civil.) and four pages to see a complete fucktard of a thread. That's four pages and many years of posting about tools for the community, posting reference for the community, posting about new stuff in the games industry etc.
Certainly does not mean I'm not arting, I art most every day. It just means that what I want out of polycount is not what you want out of polycount.
I never start trouble. It's just the titty/egotist brigades hate what I have to say.
Well it is your choice Adam. You read my first post in this thread, and therefore see that I was actually trying to help the dude, not realizing he was trolling, then the fanboy brigade turned things to shit, again. If banning someone for that sits right with you, the choice is yours and yours alone, after all
I never start trouble. It's just the titty/egotist brigades hate what I have to say.
No, that's not the issue at all. If you choose not to post work, fine. But you do rescind any privilege of criticizing others work. And especially here on a fundamental level no less. You're just lining yourself up in other peoples scope.

I never target anyones work and never have. If a topic gets started about certain content in the industry, I'll post but not mention anybody. If that person shows up, defensively posting, then I'll address them directly, and discuss. If they get pissy at that and then their fanboys show up, things go to shit. But I've never slammed another artists work ever.

You must not understand why I posted that... You have been flaming Haz for idk how long about his work, you don't show your own, you critique other peoples work with such high authority, you don't show your own. What I'm getting at is maybe you shouldn't speak so highly of yourself and giving advice when nobody on here thinks or knows you have anything to back it up, so yeah its your choice to not show your work that's fine, but you can't blame people for not knowing who you are or what you even do and giving people advice.
2)
Believe it or not Andreas people grow as better artists and mature... considering you tried to pull a thread from 2 years ago (2 years ago buddy) is kind of funny. I don't think you see me posting those kinds of threads now. Why don't I contribute more to G&D? because I am usually busy, working, and I don't have time to surf all the G&D threads and watch all these TV shows you manage to watch while you are working those grueling hours. I post more on P&P then G&D giving my advice on there and not G&D about TV shows.
3)
I don't care about that, that's not the problem... Anybody can go to a website and paste a news article.... It's great you do that and all but you totally missed the point of my post.... Credentials.
4)
That's great.

Yeah
" Not sure why this needed a thread at all... could only have lead to egotistical waffle like this..." and "I also don't think that many artists actually PM him as much about this topic as he claims; otherwise you'd see them out here saying the same thing too. that's a counterproductive mindset imo, nobody's unqualified to critique, the problem is more that the critique is nothing but "i dont like this subject matter so you should do something else"
In seriousness, you don't have to post work to have your crits taken seriously IMO ... or you shouldn't have to, anyway. What you DO have to do, however, is establish credibility somehow. I mean, Andreas could be a 20 year game artist veteran or a fresh face out of college ... I dunno. So the best Haz can do is read his feedback, think about it, and see if through internal reflection he can get some use out of it. Because, on the face of it, it's pretty much immediately invalid without context.
Expecting someone to jump and blindly take your sagely advice without giving that person any indication that you know what you're talking about is just pissing into the wind.

you should always be thinking and internally reflecting on crits imo? it seems like wanting to only receive crits from good artists for context is like wanting to be able to just trust someone else to think for you
It's a balance. I'm not saying what you think I'm saying. I'm just pointing out that all crits are not created equal. That's just life.
Read crits, think about crits, but you also have to weigh crits. A critique from Haz on my female character is going to carry a lot more weight than one from Andreas. It just is. And it should.

Now please lol.
My thoughts exactly! Made my day, thank you.
Speaking of bans what ever happened to greevar? Self-deportation?
Oh man, that's the freakiest avatar I've ever seen.
I love this thread so much.
Now I feel like I want to create a 3D model of this fine woman you have displayed here :poly142:.
Definitely had me fooled for a while there.
I just did bad things to that base mesh...ungodly things, penis tank things. @_@
Hazardous, I was working with your stream open and had to explain to my dad the difference between art and porn. It took me a while to realise he was just winding me up...
While I'm not interested in your phallus version, It'd be interested in seeing anything else you do with it.
...I paid dearly for my sin for the result cannot be unseen.
As did Haz unfortunately, I had to share the love with him. :P
HOLY SHIT LOL.
Hazardous would make an amazing porno.

Shine on you crazy diamonds...
A little premature, that's why you cannot satisfy dem ladies, if you know what i mean
Oh... for a moment I thought it was a WIP of Haz, in his new direction.
Haz is in fact, a nodding primitive penis.
