Hi everyone. Im new here and I'd like to share some of my work to receive a feedback and also some help to improve my skills.
Ok. First things first.... as a huge fan of the Borderlands I decided to learn how to draw Borderlands style textures (and also make a couple low poly objects).
So, here it is, The Door:
It is still in progress, but I'll be happy to receive any critics and suggestions. Thanks

Version without scratches special for you:
Cool road block, maybe too clean?
Yeah. You are right. I'll fix that.
One more object from that art:
Color scheme is one of my weak points. I'm still learning how to use it right =\
I had thought about it, but then I found this art.... and I already have the door so....
I am working on a metal shutter piece and trying to really "up" my hand painted texturing skills. I'll be posting it later on tonight.
Keep it up, will be following!
Back to work: I added more dirt to the road block and now it's looking better:
Also I started a new object:
But I'm worried about a color scheme =\
*should read more about it....
Unfortunately I have only a free version of Unity3D (the game engine I use) and it's without real-time shadows. So, no shadows for now
Also I have changed colors of the chest (several times already), but it's still looks quite bad =\
Hmm.... I'm also still learning and don't have "a true way" to draw in this style. But usually I begin by using just black lines. When contour is ready, I put lights and shadows. Then small details and also some fixes. At the end I have (usually - don't) a good looking texture (monochrome).
Can't say anything about other colors - still learning how to use them right.
*Sorry for my English, it's not my native language =\
Good idea, thanks
P.s. I decided to remake the chest. Even in red it looks flat =\
It all looks really nice though!
P.s. I learn how to use the UDK now and hope to make couple good looking screenshots soon.
P.s. Still learn how to use colors right. Not very successful though, heh....
The truck should have had some kind of bullbar and metal plates around. You can see some of them on this screen:
The idea was good, so I definitely try to make another truck
Cool wall panels!
The truck is cool, but at this stage I can't figure if it's an hyperion trucks (rather clean) or a "wastelander'' truck (grid and panel on window , plates from the previous screen)
Assuming it's the second choice, I think it would look cooler if it was more damaged, folded bull bar , plates around the truck ( like on your previous screen!) , stuffs on top of the cabin (crates, bags), etc. Think Mad Max , Marcus's truck...
I try to paint every day. Usualy it just sketches or pictures from tutorials/lessons.
Have bought a wacom pen tab, but it was shipped with broken "express buttons", so I have to return to old genius F-350. That's gonna be hard.... heh.
You are right about the truck. I have started with a "wastelander" style then jumped to "hyperion", then back to "wastelander" and etc.... without any convincing reason. This time I'm going to make a good sketch first.
P.s. New textures:
No colors yet and the sketch is also pretty raw, but you can see the idea I'm after:
"The car details feel much too global. It looks like a texture overlayed on it."
hmm.... I don't think I understand it correctly. Can you explain it a little bit more, please? =\
"a texture from CGTextures.com"
Yeah, I took the texture form CGTextures.com and put some "borderlands style" details. Well, it was quite simple but I like the result
It looks like you placed one grungy metal texture over the entirety of your UV sheet. It is kind of hard to explain but it looks sloppy because metal wear and tear is not going to happen uniformly over the entire car. Water is going to pool on flat area, run down and stain areas that are slanted, and rust corners where a panel may end (usually from water hanging and dripping). Check out the giant Borderlands 2 Art dump if you haven't. Look at the vehicles and metal lockers. Pay attention to where they paint color distortion. Every panel they paint on a metal object has a different stain or rust or some type of distortion. It isn't one texture overlayed on an entire object. It changes based on where the wear and tear would accumulate in real life.
The issue with this is that I saw it right away. I'm not saying it is a bad result. CgTextures is a great site for reference but if you can look at a texture and immediately recognize the base texture it comes from, it feels really lazy. Maybe I'd feel differently if you worked it into an environment where it blended into building but where it stands now, it looks like you dropped a filter on a stock image and that just looks bad.
And I think I got the point in the problem of the other texture.
Thanks
Ok, I still have some difficulties with painting, but here is a painted version:
R34 skyline? looks slick!
Some random stuff:
*Still experimenting with style.
P.s. Small texture fix.
I'm still learning how to use glare and other "glass effects" properly =\
Well, right now I'm just practicing. I have a lot to learn. But it will be good to find a job in the future where I can use this style =D
For comic shading I use marmoset's outline effect + I draw black lines for extra effect.
Well, this is my christmas card to all of you. Better late than never =D
