I'd love it if the animations were released - to see how he handled his keyframes, etc. I struggle with stuff in that area, like using the trax editor
Think most of it is animated on twos which means that the character keeps the same pose for two frames @ 24 fps which ultimalty makes it look like 12 fps. Cameras and and other objects are on ones (no double frames) which makes them appear smooth. Love the look and feel of it.
And no need touch the trax editor. Making the right poses on the right frames is essentialy what it's about and all you need to know is how to manipulate the rig and hittin that S key!:poly121:
Sorry, late to the party. Yes, almost all the stuff in EXTW was animated on 2's with stepped keys. David had a good idea of what needed to happen in each shot but was very open to how we achieved those ideas. We blocked stuff out every 10 frames or so in order to get ideas approved, then added breakdowns to flesh out more details. There's something to be said for avoiding the graph editor and making the poses + timing do what you want (though obviously knowing how to use animation curves is invaluable).
It's pretty awesome to see the rigs freely available and I hope people are inspired to make cool stuff!

I'll give these a try. Looks like fun.

Jim Levasseur (jipe on polycount) wrote this about the technique in his portfolio thread http://www.polycount.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1286443&postcount=14
