Zbrush Ram allotment OSX

Hey guys,

So, i've built a hackintosh computer, I've got a i7 processor, 16 gigs of ram and a 2g Nvidia 660 ti.

I'm wondering if i have a single mesh thats at about 17m poly's i really cant work with it at all, but i've heard of people going up into the 30m polycount (not sure if thats many subtools or just one). I checked my CPU monitor and it says that zbrush is only using about 1.4-2 gigs of memory when I'm really pressing it, and i have plenty thats left over.

Is there a way to increase the amount of memory? or anything i can do?

Thanks!

You can try increasing your Preferences: Mem: Compact Mem ammount. It can currently only go up to 4096 as zbrush is 32bit.

I'm not sure if having polygroups or UVs will affect the number of verts you can handle per subtool. You can always try to find logical points to split the mesh into more subtools if need be.
