+1. SONY focus so much on releasing a half-decent handheld that they forget to also muster some software for it!
Meanwhile, at SONY...
"Oh fuck! We forgot the games again!"
With the PSVita version of Unity, I wonder how they're going to get the most out of it? I can count on one hand the number of console games that use Unity; it just didn't seem appealing apparently.
I guess how they'll handle publishing and licensing with Unity/PSNVitaStore that'll determine how well this goes.
I thought this would mean Unity would start making games with their own engine.
They made one, it was terrible. Unity is nice for simple things, and could be a good match for the Vita. I guess we'll see.
Didn't sony have some kind of SDK for the Vita that did not require a devkit? If I'm not mistaken about that then there's a good chance this Unity thing won't require a devkit either.
Yeah the Playstation Mobile SDK. I REALLY hope that they give general access to the Unity toolset like they do the mobile SDK without huge fees and dev hardware, the PR is unclear but you can read it here:
If this is accessible to indie devs without hardware and big fees, it'll be amazing, if it is just an extension of their existing Sony licensing then it'll be almost useless... are there actually any PS3 games built with Unity?
ah yeah, the Playstation SDK
After reading this from your link, i'm pretty sure you wont need a devkit:
Unity for PlayStation® also allows Unity developers to create games for PSM more efficiently without the need for an additional PlayStation®Mobile SDK.*1 Both Unity for PlayStation® and PSM SDK use the .NET framework allowing for easy transition between the two tools. In addition, Unity developers can easily port their games created for iPhone, iPad, and Android based smartphones and tablets to launch on PSM, removing the need for extensive re-coding.
maybe they're sitting on too many vitas. having a wave of interesting indy games from people who otherwise couldn't afford a dev kit could help sony. heck I would get a vita
Got a Vita and was planning to port a game I'm making onto it. All C# so should be easy. You can use a normal retail Vita to develop on. Was accepted on the publisher program and it's similar to the Apple/Android developer programs in lots of ways. The Vita is a very nice piece of hardware, but like what's been said - hardly any standout games. Mainly got it for Persona 4, bought it for PS2 but hardly played it due to it coming out in PS3 starting era. Would love some indy RPGs to come out that are more off the wall, as well as a great racing game bar Wipeout, but normal cars. Possibilities are endless, and the controls are proper real not like smart phone/ipad virtual joysticks that are placed so that your hands break.

I have a suspicion that this is the case.
I bet you one SONY licence that payment will be required.
I also suspect this is something to boost the PlayStation Mobile line up of games.
Most likely I don't think even Android or iOS support comes with the free unity licence.

Go Sony go!
I think the cost of the sony plugin for Unity costs more than the devkits if I remember correctly.
