Merging issue in Zbrush!

I am a novice at ZBrush and have sculpted this rock incorrectly. I first created the initial subtool to the extent that I could duplicate it and merge it into itself to increase its size and variance. The problem is that when I "merged" the two sub-tools using the "Merge Down" command, I did not have the Weld or UV tabs checked as I read after that I was supposed to have done.

My understanding is that now I basically have two meshes within one sub-tool that are not truly one piece. I should have known this when I noticed the invincible sharp seam between the two.

Is it possible for me to integrate the mesh into itself as one closed piece while still preserving the details?

You can merge items and maintain their individual UV coords (by ticking the 'UV' button then merging). However you cannot merge them into a 'true' single welded mesh (there will be intersecting geometry if both meshes were sealed originally), the only way (to my knowledge) is to retopologise the merged subtools into a single mesh (or use Dynamesh on it), this will require you to recreate the UV's though.

Thanks, a 3rd year student of my program showed me the power and glory of Dynamesh as well. It did a good job of merging the seams.
